On Feb. 12, 2008, Imad Mughniyah, Hezbollahs international operations chief, walked on a quiet nighttime street in Damascus after dinner at a nearby restaurant. Not far away, a team of CIA spotters in the Syrian capital was tracking his movements.
As Mughniyah approached a parked SUV, a bomb planted in a spare tire on the back of the vehicle exploded, sending a burst of shrapnel across a tight radius. He was killed instantly.
The device was triggered remotely from Tel Aviv by agents with Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence service, who were in communication with the operatives on the ground in Damascus. The way it was set up, the U.S. could object and call it off, but it could not execute, said a former U.S. intelligence official.

I would love to see their reaction when they meet their maker.
Obumer is deeply saddened.
Bush’s fault. /s
sounds like it’s miller time for a few folks.
nice work, guys

Iran, Hizbollah, ISIS, al Qaeda. All root and branch of the same tree. We are apparently picking off some leaders here and there - lately only the Israelis carrying the fight, thanks to this administration - but why aren’t we preparing to take on our enemies with full effectiveness?
If there is one real lesson from history, evil is only eliminated through sacrifice and direct confrontation. We tried to stay out of WW II and that didn’t work. We tried partial measures in Korea and North Korea is still a deadly threat.
We need to invest in the weapons needed and the forces required and get ready for the confrontation we will have to have.
Congratulations on killing a guy in a parking lot and another guy in his hideout in Pakistan. Now get serious, or it will get a lot harder for all of very soon.
I love a happy ending.
You are right. It was in 2008 and Bush signed off on it.
A good article.
Imad Mughniyeh was the godfather Islamic terrorist. He murdered and tortured Americans.
He was a dangerous man with a wealth of experience in targeting us. In the 1980s, he pulled off the bombing of the US Embassy, the Marine barracks and an assault on our CIA station there, leading to the abduction, torture and of our CIA station chief. He helped to plan and led the hijacking of TWA flight 847 and the murder of naval officer Robert Stethem, that he personally perpetrated. His list of atrocities was as long as his monstrous existence. We took all that to heart and vowed he would pay.
When I heard he died, my reaction at the time was we got the son of a b*tch! Revenge is dish best served cold. In fact, my only regret is that he died far too easy and far more humanely than what he did to his victims. But the world is a far better place without this blood-thirsty, inhuman and merciless thug around.
I supported Obama for getting Bin Laden and Alawki.
Two of our deadliest enemies.
When they’re dead, they can’t harm us.
Why reveal this? Let them wonde, even if it’s obvious who the likely suspects were.
The reaction thus far is from Nusrallah over in Lebanon, who said he “Didn’t want war”, but said he would wage war with Israel if he deemed fit to do so
Hey Nusrallah, have you read Isaiah 83 lately? Bet you haven’t...
What's that? Let the terrorist kill you first? Elimination of a terrorist is a righteous thing. Thanks you President Bush for eliminating this scum from the face of the earth.
Those were the days when the US treated her allies like allies and not like what’s happened since January 2009...

All indications were that Obumer took out Osama kicking and screaming. If Osama was on the move from safe house to safe house Obumers delays would have resulted in him being alive to this day. See the movie Zero Dark 30, the feet dragging is sickening. Fact is Obumer finally gave the go ahead IMO for one of two reasons (rather Jarrett did) 1. strictly for personal political motives and a campaign slogan. It had nothing to do with National Security. The Muslim was sacrificed for the greater cause. 2. If Obumer didn’t get off the pot the CIA was going to leak that they knew were Osama was and Obumer refused to take action, thus killing a chance for the second term of his Dictatorship.
Well based on some comments I’ve seen elsewhere, it seems that this article was meant to show that America and Israel’s relationship is stronger than anything King Barry can do to it, like his piss-poor treatment of Bibi.
That’s the kind of story I like!
The reason I see the limousine liberals getting their frilly pink panties in a wad over this is how it exposes that the democrats would rather callously accept terminal collateral damage to innocents over using a technical asset to inflict a surgical strike guaranteed to neutralize only the intended target. [”It’s not fair we use the (CIA) against that man, that’s an unfair advantage against him!”] The stupid bleeding-heart bastards, you would think they’d have liked it—it gave the Hezbollah supporters something else to cry about!
