Nor did we agonize about the firebombings of Tokyo or even about Hiroshima or Nagasaki, we assumed the Japanese got what was coming to them because they turned to a militaristic/fastest regime.

What does the USA deserve for the murder of multiplied millions of innocent unborn human beings?

Sounds like the Declaration of Independence was laying the philosophical foundation for Article V. I think we should try this approach before opening fire. But we better hurry up because our options are diminishing and then society will pay the forfeit.

I’ve been looking at this tragedy and travesty from a different point of view. Did America qua America really ever deserve anything good at all? Not according to the bible. We sinned in Adam. The state of innocence of the unborn? At the risk of sounding like a monster, as best we know they sinned in Adam too. Still it is a horrible sight to behold, because we have deeply imprinted in our spiritual intuitions the notion that God is a redeeming God and does not suffer setbacks either lightly or gladly.

What made the difference in early America was the widespread acceptance of the Christian gospel, which told of a help and a purpose beyond this world. Variations in how it was presented did not entirely eliminate its weight in America.

Making a new case for the Creator (and re-Creator) makes eminent sense. Without accepting that case ourselves, even anything we might try to do with earthly arms won’t achieve any heavenly end.

Well, even a responsibility is a response-ability to some entity with righteous authority.

Anything men can come up with will not be able to hold a candle to God.

Half baked theories might be pardoned by the Lord but they cannot be blessed like an even attempted wholehearted devotion.

The point I hope folks carry away: God isn’t a theory. God isn’t a philosophy. God is a being, a very true help in times of trouble. He is Love — relationship is at His very heart. We should not be Sunday believers but 24/7 believers. We play with fire when we entertain views of Him that fall short, especially when we do it in the face of fair warning.

And also it did look like the Confederate quest was foolish. Pride of the South really wasn’t a good enough reason to rebel.

Opening fire comes after the declaration...

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

The framework of liberty has to be there before it can be claimed. It isn’t some arbitrary license.

Morally and spiritually, slaves dragged down both the North and the South, but the South more at the time of the split. Before God, begging for freedom when you won’t give it to your slaves is asking for a deaf ear. The North was more pragmatic, it just wanted a going concern of a country.
