Pipelines are not justified on the price of oil. They make money by the difference in the price of oil based upon location. We will end up using more, not less oil with low prices.

“With the price of a barrel of oil about $50, who is gonna pay for Keystone XL even if we did get it past Obama?”

Pipelines are not justified on the price of oil. They make money by the difference in the price of oil based upon location. We will end up using more, not less oil with low prices.

But production of oil certainly is " justified on the price of oil.” And if there is nothing produced to be sent down the pipeline, because it costs more than it will bring at the “wellhead,” how much is it worth to build the pipeline??
The Saudis are now engaged in generating FUD about the value of the XL project. And the value of maintaining our painfully built-up fracking infrastructure. Abandon those, and the price goes up again - perhaps not to $100, but up.

You have your reasons to oppose the logical measures the US could take to limit the Saudi’s ability to play that game. So the game will continue.
