In January 2002, Ventura, who never specifically stated whether he fought in Vietnam, disclosed that he had not seen combat. He was stationed at Subic Bay in the Philippines, and for this he received the Vietnam Service Medal, given to all military personnel who supported the war effort even though stationed outside South Vietnam.[18]
I got the Defense Service Medal (I think, I can't remember the actual name, and don't give two hoots to look it up) simply because I was active duty during Desert Shield/Storm. I was stationed in Korea and then Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ during those operations.
I never felt anything in my life was less deserving than that "medal."
