Former Gov. Rick Perry presented an angry man persona at a news conference on Wednesday when responding to a court ruling on the abuse of office indictment against him.
He neednt have been so angry. His lawyers are making headway.
Judge Bert Richardson ruled Tuesday that the case can move forward, but he also noted weaknesses in both counts of the indictment.
Perrys lawyers said theyll appeal the ruling, while at the same time taking advantage of Richardsons suggestion that they reword their motion to dismiss one of the counts and try again.

A crime like the Governor is accused of consist of elements, all parts of the whole that must be proven to the jury if it goes that far, by the prosecutor to be there to be convicted of a crime.
The elements are like a recipe for baking. For example, if you bake bread, you might say that the elements you use are the ingredients mixed together in making that loaf of bread. Flour, yeast, baking soda, baking powder, salt, milk, etc. All of these are mixed together to have a loaf of bread ready to eat. If you leave out an ingredient like yeast, and put it in the oven to bake, when you finish you have something, but certainly not a loaf of bread. You have a hard lump of baked dough.
The prosecutors case against Perry is like that lump of baked dough. Its half baked.
Sure, Perry wanted to deny funds to that prosecutor. He did other things too, but all of his acts considered as a whole in its entirity do not add up to a crime. Like that loaf of bread baked without yeast, it falls flat too.
I spoke to a friend and colleage of mine that is a TX DA about this case.
It’s clear that the prosecution is either incompetent or malicious.
This case will go absolutely nowhere.
The charges simply cannot be sustained.
The only remaining question is how far it gets before being tossed for good.
Yeah, well I am angry Texas had to put up with someone that’s All hat, and no cattle when it comes to being a conservative.
Talks conservative, Governs like a progressive liberal.
Nuff said.
I guess my definition of progressive liberal is different than yours is. I think Governors Cuomo, Brown, Granholm, Deval Patrick and others governed like progressive liberals. Perry did not govern like them. He may not be as conservative on every issue as some like, but he is not a progressive liberal.
Perry did not govern like a progressive liberal.
You say Perry did not govern like a progressive liberal.
You are correct. He governed like a CORRUPT Progressive Liberal
For example, he ORDERED our 13 year old and up schoolgirls to take a STD vaccine that has been proven to be dangerous - but was overruled by our Texas legislators. Later it came to light his “buddies” would make money from selling the vaccines.
Then, he tried to forcibly take land from Texans (via imminent domain) and build a NAFTA “superhighway” from Mexico - and give the contract to a Spanish Firm ....I am sure he would benefit from that as well.
I could go on, about Perry’s appointing family members to various government posts/boards, but if these facts don’t give you pause to reconsider IF he really means what he says, nothing will.
Perry. Corrupt. Liar. Liberal Pretending to ba a Conservative.
Must be a whole lot of us dumbass Texas conservatives who just kept on electing and re-electing ol liberal Perry until he set a Governor serving record. Texans, especially Conservative Texans will fall for anything, right?
Nuff said is it was your hiney talkin cause your mouth knew better.
What in world is with Travis County? First Tom Delay and now Governor Perry.
I have put up with Perry bashing on KLBJ talk radio and snarky name calling like “pointy boots” until I am sick of it. I disagree. He really stepped in it with that Gardasil issue and there are some other things he’s had to live down. No, he isn’t perfect and I have done my share of griping, but he did a lot of good for Texas and I give him his due. I’ve never had to worry about him taking our guns away. In spite of his flaws, he is no progressive liberal.
Travis Co. - Austin is the Berkly of Texas.
The Official(ish) motto is Keep Austin Weird. it could be added ... and leftist, but that is unnecessary as Austin might stop being weird but not leftist
Not nuff said. If Perry is being maliciously prosecuted, that should upset you no matter your views of his political alignment with your views.
You should find abuse of the political process to get at one's political enemies abhorrent in every instances otherwise you have no place calling yourself a conservative as you espouse to be.
If I have read more into your comments than you intend, then please consider it for further discussion only.
I don’t support someone just because their opponents are playing dirty tricks.
If you do, then you deserver the type of scoundrel representative you will get.
I support Perry’s LEGAL defense. Not the same as supporting him for Public Office. That SHOULD be a higher standard.
We have enough crooks in office, don’t need any more crony type politics.
