Do you recommend being vaccinated against polio?
I’m conflicted on vaccines and refuse to take the flu vaccine, opting for natural immunity myself (no risk factors).
However, writers lose credibility with poor proofreading.
Psssssssssssst...hey Melissa - check your math next time.
Or more accurate, perhaps her immune system didn't work. It may also be possible (I didn't read the full story) that she was exposed to the real flu too soon after receiving the vaccine. If that happened, her body may not have had time to fully develop antibodies that could fight off the flu.
> I never ever never use a pen that is not mine and is
> always in my control and I never lend it to anyone.
VERY good advice.
And always wash before eating, regardless of where you are or when you last washed.
I’d be surprised if she didn’t get the flu shot at the beginning of the school year. Most states that require the shot for schoolkids require it by the start of school or shortly thereafter.
I’d be shocked if she received it after Halloween even.
“Well, this little girl got the flu shot. And later died of the same strain of vaccine flu.”
All that shows is that the flu vaccine is not 100% effective, even on the correct strain. Which is surprising to no one. No vaccine is 100% effective.
"Influenza Outbreak in a Vaccinated Population USS Ardent, February 2014"
"Sequence analysis (3) of the HA1 portion of the hemagglutinin gene showed 99% homology to typical H3N2 strains circulating in the United States and worldwide during the 201314 northern hemisphere influenza season and were found to be antigenically similar to A/Texas/50/2012 (4). Ninety-nine of 102 USS Ardent crew members, 24 of the 25 with ILI symptoms, and 17 of 18 crew members with confirmed influenza A (H3N2) infection had received the 201314 influenza vaccine ≥3 months before the outbreak. Vaccinations had been administered at local naval health clinics and at a vaccination fair conducted by Naval Medical Center San Diego. Of the 25 crew members with ILI symptoms, 16 were vaccinated via intradermal injection, eight via intranasal mist, and one had not received vaccination."
BTW, this was LAST years flu vaccine.

65%, 48% and 25% protection are a lot better than 0% protection. If people don't want to get the flu shot, then fine, that's a personal choice; but to suggest that the flue shot is worthless and of no value or benefit is an act of journalistic malpractice.
They usually don't make the flu shot widely available until early October. Given that many schools start in August, I would think getting the flu shot prior to school starting would be a challenge.

Do read that writeup.
Lots of official statistical shenanigans with this shot. Lots.
That’s surprising. The Walgreens around here start their push in September.
Hubby and I remarked that we knew it was ‘back to school’ when we saw all the signs.
Then don’t get he flu shot, if you don’t think it works,. Personal choice. I’ve been getting the shot for the last ten years, beginning the year after I got the flu and and missed Christmas, New Years, my birthday, and about two weeks of work. I have not contracted the flu since I started getting the shot.
Did you bother to read Sharyl’s writeup at all?
Did the official shenanigans not bother you at all?
I’ll tell you about 10 years ago I had the flu I honestly thought I was going to die it was a 3 week stint and another 2 weeks before I REALLY felt human again!!!!! I have NOT missed a flu shot since then!!!!! It only takes one time of being this sick to get that damn shot!!!!!!
I was thinking the same thing myself ... after this time around ... :-) ...
What we do know is that this is one single incident. Many millions of other people have received the vaccine and have not died from influenza.
I have always had mixed feelings about mandatory vaccinations for a number of reasons. I went ahead and got the shot though because my employer would have forced me to wear a mask around during my 12 hour shifts if I hadn't and I really didn't want to do that. I have had three viral infections since getting the shot but no influenza. I'm currently fighting a viral upper respiratory infection in fact. That's how nature intended it.
