I had to look up the storm I recalled in Minnesota growing up. We had a roving house party for a few days. One neighbor kept getting on his snowmobile to go get booze.

Jan. 1975 “Storm of the Century”. 2 feet of snow, 80 mph winds, 20-foot drifts. Roads were closed for 11 days in some places. Living in the suburbs and only being 14 it didn’t seem like a big deal to me. And I don’t recall my parents being all worked up about it.

But if this storm does bring 36-inches of snow and 60 mph winds it will put a major hurt on the NE with a lot of dead in it’s wake. (I’m guessing most deaths are car accidents? But in 1975 there were a bunch of heart attacks too listed in the history, shovelling snow no doubt.)

I was a boy when that storm hit and remember it. I was an adult when the Halloween storm of 1991 dropped 39 inches of snow on me in 24 hours and God knows how much more after that.

That much snow will snarl things for sure. But really, it isn’t the end of the world unless you work for the Weather Channel, in which case you’re screaming hysterically.

Banned civilian vehicles? Yeah, treacherously unsafe, but still sounds dictatorial to me.
