To keep some rail lines open, all one needs is a decent sized jet engine. This one is currently in use for big storms, may see action here in Boston this storm... Great way to combat glowball cooling with its incredible fuel usage.

Useful for clearing switch points and retarders, but the smart yardmasters get every available coal hopper sent to his yard ahead of the storm, loads ‘em up with snow from his yard, then waybills them to the deep south.
