Lawmakers in Mississippi have introduced two pieces of legislation that, if approved, would make the Holy Bible the official book of Mississippi, even though such a move might conflict with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
With Mississippi lacking an officially designated book of the state, three Mississippi lawmakers, Reps. Tom Miles, Michael Evans, and William Arnold (also a non-denominational pastor), are sponsoring bills in the state legislature that would label the Holy Scripture as the state's official book.
Evans told AL.com that the idea of making the Bible the official book of Mississippi came about when he was discussing with his constituents about all the "wrong in the world" and how if more people read the Bible things could be better.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Miles issued a similar notion, stating that the Bible lays down the foundation for how people should act.
The Bible provides a good role model on how to treat people," Miles said. "They could read in there about love and compassion."
Miles added that the bills will likely receive bipartisan support, as already 20 Mississippi lawmakers have vowed to support the measure.
Although the lawmakers have reiterated that such a move would be just a symbolic gesture and would not "force anyone to read" the Bible, Evans, Miles and others in favor of the bills hope that such a designation would lead more people to pick up the Bible, since the Scripture promotes kindness and compassion.

"Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."
- Moses, Numbers 13:17-18
Thank You, JESUS for Your Holy Word! Great job Mississippi!
You know, the Lord didn’t become Man and walk this earth just to show that he could do it. We now live in the age of Grace. I hope you amuse yourself.
Thanks WKB.
Great, but you can tell its election year
You are quoting Old Testament Law. Jesus Christ came and brought in the New Testament.
Words of Jesus: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Luke 10:27)
I was quoting Moses.
Jesus Christ came and brought in the New Testament.
A Mississippi politician said that the Bible provided a good role model on how to treat people. He didn't limit his statement or his proposed law to the New Testament. The lines I quoted from the Bible evidently provide the same sort of model for behavior as ISIS does. So it appears that this politician has not really read the complete Bible, which he should have done before he proposed that it become the official state book and before he made the blanket statement that it was a good role model for how to treat people.
BTW it is not even clear that a book can be a role model. Wikipedia says that a role model is a person. The Good Samaritan is a role model of someone who follows the Golden Rule.
This would do nothing to “establish” a religion, and that refers to the federal Congress anyway. This is a States Rights issue.
Eff off, feds.
Moses represents Old Testament Law.
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
The best thing you can do is say a simple prayer to God, asking Him whether the Bible is actually a good role model or not. If you honestly want to know the truth, let Him give you the answer instead of us arguing about it.
The Bible provides a good role model on how to treat people,” Miles said.
Matthew 22:37-39
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
I almost missed your ping!
WOW!!!!!
Thank you so much!
You are very welcome onyx! Burning the midnight oil I see.
Bible to Be Mississippi’s Official State Book?

Senator Thad Cochran (MS) demanded that before this happens, all pages condemning bestiality be torn out.
I find it hard to believe that the Mississippi legislature doesn’t have more pressing issues to take up.
