I’m Joni Ernst. As a mother, a soldier, and a newly elected senator from the great State of Iowa, I am proud to speak with you tonight.
A few moments ago, we heard the President lay out his vision for the year to come. Even if we may not always agree, it’s important to hear different points of view in this great country. We appreciate the President sharing his.
Tonight though, rather than respond to a speech, I’d like to talk about your priorities. I’d like to have a conversation about the new Republican Congress you just elected, and how we plan to make Washington focus on your concerns again.

42 years of doing weather on tv made me remember back when I started. Gotta, somehow ignore the lights, cameras, floor directors, etc. and have normal conversation with the composite person you visualize as your one-person virtual audience. Reagan remains the undefeated expert at projecting a one-on-one conversation with the masses
It was really hard to watch and especially to listen to. Embarrassing.

I never watch any of Obama’s speeches, but I do look through the transcripts. The transcript is there so you don ‘to have to watch it ... :-) ...

Precisely! When I heard that she was going to make the rebuttal, I damn near physically cringed. That was a job for someone who has been around the DC block at least once. Let one of the superannuated cronys that cling to power go out there and read scripted platitudes... where's McCain, or McConnell, or Hatch, or one of the other elites who like playing God?
Joni is not particularly conservative, nor is she a slick huckster, but she has the potential to be an effective Iowan in the senate. She's also impressive in person, but needs some work to translate that into television appearances. The GOP-e doesn't seem to employ anyone who understands such things, so they pushed JE out there and doomed her appearance to be something of a "Bobby Jindal underwhelms" encore.

That speech was obviously prepared for Joni Ernst, and by all the omissions and true lack of a response to the unchecked/unbalanced PINO, the Fix truly is in. If she had any respect for her oath to the Constitution, she wouldn’t have accepted the offer to give the speech. (Her pretty little smile was a total put-off for me considering the shape this country is in).
