well, one of our founding fathers said it best ( i do not recall who, or exactly what words were used in this quote, so i will paraphrase, please excuse me)...
this constitution is for a moral people. it will work for no other.
what does this mean?
simple, the regulation of morality has resulted in nothing less but the downfall of civilizations, and the worst of mankind coming through to rule the day..
need recent explainations???
nazi germany, and the killing of those who were “mentally” inferior..
we in this country want to restrict gun rights and civil rights for those that are “mentally inferior”..
the south during the civil war ( this is a whole different subject, and i will discuss this with any rational person ) and slavery...
the middle east and christians...
africa and moslems...
africa and christians...
eastern europe and anyone of religious faith, be it christian or muslem..
the list goes on and on..
here it is, in a nutshell, and you will probably not like it...
morality is subjective..
it is subjective to whoever happens to be in power at that time...
the people of germany subjected themselves to the nazi morality..
as did stalin’s soviet union, the roman empire, the japanese empire, and so on...
the regulation of morality is both the biggest sin and the biggest killer of human beings ever devised..
i am dead set against it...

Don’t feel sorry for me, I am actually in a good place. In fact, I started getting better when I turned off all cable news and started to read.
I agree with you about strict constitutionalism. This has to be the basis for our political ideology. We must begin with the protections of individual rights regardless of what we think about the individual person. We must stand against conferring rights based on association.
As for morality, I think that can be judged by the consequences of our actions. I have always believed that people should be left to their own devices as long as they bring no harm to anyone else and they don’t ask others to pay the consequences for their choices.
We have become like drug addicts in this country with all the non-addicted people paying the price for the chaos the addicts create.
It doesn’t help that conservatives so willingly toss aside their brethren at the slightest hint of disagreement.
