I just found out from my nurse that any veteran rated at or over 50% disabled can just walk into the Texas DMV with proof, an application and $3 and leave with a disabled veteran license plate which also serves as a handicapped parking permit. I assumed one had to be 100%.
Some years ago, wife and I are walking into a cafe, Hi-lift El camino WITH a handicap plate is parked by the front door in a handicap spot. The floorboard is about eye level, with a ladder to climb in. I’m wondering just what sort of handicap might this person have?
Called Texas DOT next day. I was told that if a driver presented with a note from a doctor, DOT had no choice but to issue a handicap plate.
Really? wow. that sounds easy. I don’t know what it would take here. But to get a placard, I had to have this form, signed by my dr. and delivered to the tag office, It was really easy.
I met a lady who had one because she couldn’t see out of one eye. That’s just ridiculous.
