Brad Sweeney did not know what to expect when concealed-carry of firearms became law in Illinois last year. The Decatur police chief said he and his officers were hopeful that it would not cause any problems, though the thought of Decatur turning into a wild, wild west of gun violence did cross his mind. . . .
Concerns raised by critics as Illinois became the last state to allow concealed-carry for citizens have dissipated as officials said the roll-out has been as smooth as possible.
While some estimated that upward of 400,000 people would file for permits in the first year of the law, state police said just 91,651 applicants were granted licenses by the end of 2014.

It always amazes me how a majority of LEO’s everywhere know very little about the laws.
I would have thought they had some training to keep them up to date.
Liberals are so slow to learn.
This peaceful scenario has been proven a thousand times, and a cliché has even sprung up.
An armed society is a peaceful society. How old is that Robert A. Heinlein quote?
Please don’t mix police administrators with real police. It’s like saying politicians actually understand business.
Second, have you looked at who is providing the training/indoctrination for the police? We the people are found lazy and cheap, again.
Actually, the RAH quote is that an armed society is polite, not peaceful.
The two don’t necessarily go together. The Paris of the Three Musketeers had immensely elaborate structures for polite interaction. It was not at all peaceful, with lots of dueling and even more brawling of a less formal nature.
Anti concealed and anti gun rights propaganda groups tried that “wild west shoot out at every car accident” BeeEss in each and every state before the preexisting right to self defense was recognized to some degree in every state.
Even anti gun former Michigan Governor Granholm admitted she was wrong after concealed carry had been allowed with little problems for several years.
Y'might find WE are the ones the bad guys know about and back off.
You’re right. Thanks.
The Supreme Court has condoned their making up their own law on the spot.
The state legislature passed a law implementing CCW just like every other state.
From the article:
I tell my students to think about using their firearm like it’s a shark tank: If you wouldn’t jump into a shark tank for it, it’s not worth it,
Say what?
It's been five months and Austin still has not sent me a letter or License.
At least I still have my VA License which has reciprocity.
Permits and “having to apply” for them are infringments on our second amendment rights to keep and bear arms. End.
But only under court order by a panel of Federal judges. I have one of the newly issued Illinois CCWs. The state government would never have done this on their own.
Would I jump into a shark tank if the only alternative was certain death for myself or a loved one? Probably.
Would I jump into a shark tank for the sake of an iPhone? No.
I think what he was trying to communicate, is that the aftermath of shooting somebody is very likely going to turn into the most stressful and expensive event of your life (as George Zimmerman discovered).
I just printed a copy of the second ammendment to tape to my state-issued ccw permit. If I ever have to hand it to someone, I will explain that I have both my state and federal permits allowing me to carry.
