2/3rds of these are suicide.
I’m not sure it’s that high, but it’s probably around 50% at least. The suiciders could just as easily kill themselves some other way if they didn’t have a gun (maybe with a car).
Exactly. Having a gun available might make suicide a bit easier for some, but if a person is bound and determined to kill himself, he'll probably find a way, perhaps with a high-speed car crash or a dive off a roof, either of which could harm others.
Conflating suicides by handgun with homicides by handgun is disingenuous at best, and dishonest at worst. It's akin to adding masturbation statistics to rape statistics.
