Cruz is not my cup of tea, stylistically," says veteran political operative Roger Stone, who has worked with both the Republican and Libertarian parties. "But he's very smart-legally smart and politically smart. And the guy's got brass balls."
quite possible
You seem to misunderstand — You see, the Republican party doesn't care about the Constitution, rule of law, Truth, Justice, or the American Way.
It is the Constitutionalist, the Libertarian, the Conservative
that are RINOS — Romney, McCain, et al are the true face of the Republican party.
Hmm..
Glenn needs a new headline writer.
The content was much more an objective assessment that the labels implied by the headline.
so true.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing.
(I confess to writing my comment before reading the complete article.)
Political stature is not formed by how many years one may have served in a particular elective body, and the measure of of the whole person, not on “time served” in any one venue, should be the criteria used in making a judgment as to the fitness of a person for a particular office.
Demonstration of great reasoning powers and application of critical thinking should be the units of measure of fitness for office.
Nom nom nom nom thanks!
One of the most objective Cruz articles I’ve seen.
“Demonstration of great reasoning powers and application of critical thinking should be the units of measure of fitness for office.”
Now that’s just crazy talk. ;-)
objective if you read through the occasional snide quips
Ted Cruz is the real deal! He is the most erudite, yet measured, U.S. Senator in ages. (I personally think he’s in the same category as Daniel Webster!) Mike Lee is by far and away the second best U.S. Senator, but still a ways behind Ted Cruz. (That’s not meant to be a criticism, just an observation.) Until last night, I had put Rand Paul, warts and all, as the third best U.S. Senator. But, his stock tanked with me when I read his comments about judicial activism—giving more power to the federal judiciary is the LAST THING we need. Jeff Sessions and James Inhofe are extremely good as well. I honestly cannot say I trust any other U.S. Senator. But, as I’ve said here before, I’d follow Ted Cruz to hell and back. I hope Republicans vying for the 2016 Republican nomination do not take Alan Dershowitz’s advice and truly underestimate Ted Cruz. In the process, I have no doubt that Ted Cruz will use his incredible intellect and world-class debating skills to win both the nomination and ultimately “Cruz” (pun intended) to the presidency. When there’s a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, I hope he nominates Paul Clement to the post. If there are more vacancies, I have no doubt that he’ll appoint equally qualified and impressive (compared to Paul Clement) justices on the U.S. Supreme Court. After he serves eight years as president, I hope he pulls a William Howard Taft and becomes a justice. (Though, as much as I’d like to see Roberts off the Court when there’s a Republican president, I doubt there’ll be a vacancy in the Chief Justice’s chair any time in Ted Cruz’s viable lifetime.) In Cruz I Trust!!/rwa
i’d per
Objective for this guy not being on our side.
There’s some talk of Iowa ditching Paul for Cruz... not just whispers. Then again, I think I remember reading Rand can’t run for Prez and keep his Senate seat...?
Libertarian? Wishful thinking by Reason. Cruz is a Bible-believing Christian and won’t support Liberaltarian idiocy regarding abortion, homosexual marriage and drugs.
Certainly more positive than one would expect from an Establishment guy.
It sounds like projection -- like you are attributing the contempt you feel for Stone onto his comment about Cruz.
Demonstration of great reasoning powers and application of critical thinking should be the units of measure of fitness for office.
I agree. We need real debating. Not this Candy Crowley liberal gotcha stuff.
Obama, bush, and bush Sr. would not have made the grade. Sadly, Clinton would have passed, and maybe at the time even Carter. But I do agree that your units should be our standard, and thereafter we vote on politics.
Can you imagine a debate or oral exam, for all candidates regardless of party, where they are just shown reasoning and thinking? No political questions, just logic and LSAT style questions?
Oh, and it has to be given by Alex Trebek, so when someone is wrong or off, he can have that scornful tone in his voice. “No, no no no no no, the answer is of course x.”
"No filibusters on the Senate floor to hold the federal budget hostage to the repeal of Obamacare;..."
Bad, bad filibusters from Ted Cruz. Shame on you Ted Cruz. Naughty, naughty boy. This sort of nonsense from the MSM is becoming very tiresome.
One wonders what the MSM and even Reason Mag will think when we see a torrent of filibusters coming from the Dems over the next two years while they attempt to save the Obama "legacy" or at least what little is left of it.
I suspect we will just be asked to look the other way.
Of ALL candidates from either party, Cruz looks to be the one person who is highly capable and badly needed. This country needs someone to pull it from the grasps of destruction and I see Cruz as the one capable of doing such. Unfortunately, the rinos will not support the person they really need to keep us all from total destruction.
This.
Cruz is like stumbling, dying of thirst, across the Sahara, seeing an oasis with water and shady palms, but sitting there is a terrorist with guns and swords, saying, “You can’t come in.”
We can’t have him unless he has come up with a strategy to win the Low Infos like Reagan did. And the strategy has to be very different in 2015, and Cruz wasn’t in movies, run a state, or even a wealthy Union.
We need him like the water in the desert but we can’t have him.
Ted Cruz is the only elected official that I voted for who I do not worry about. He always seems to do the right thing. I am glad I got the chance to vote for him.
