Senate Republicans are willing to use a vital spending bill to fight President Obama on immigration. But not as hard as their House colleagues would like.
The House will vote Wednesday to stop funding for Obama's executive action deferring deportations for 5 million undocumented immigrants as part of a measure to fund the Homeland Security Department. Then it will be the Senate's turn, and some House Republicans are already worried about what that chamber will do.
"You rarely see this kind of unity from our conference on anything," Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona told National Journal, "and you're seeing incredible unity on this bill. And it would be tragic for the Senate, who just took over the majority for the first time in a while, with a mandate to do their job and I would hope that they'll do itand listen."
Even some of the Senate's fiercest critics of Obama's immigration policies, such as Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, are not taking a tone as aggressive as House Republicans when it comes to holding the Homeland Security Department's funding at risk.
"We need to fund DHS. I think that's high ground," Sessions said Tuesday.

Senate GOP fight? ROFLOL!!
You’d think our GOP Senate is led by Frenchmen...
Be wary of being snookered by senior GOP politicians in the Senate. I do not trust them.
GOP Senators are masters of deceit. They want to pass Obama’s so-called amnesty / immigration bill.
GOP Senators did not get there by being dumb.
YEP
When asked for a response, Senator Cochran said, “I’ll vote how Mitch wants me to vote.”
Boy...sure glad we got that R majority! Just think, it could have been Democrats bending to Obola’s will in office! God forbid!!!
I still say the proper approach would be to call everyone of the heads of these agencies before Congress and IMPEACH THEM for not following the LAW passed by congress.
Hey, that is an insult to Frenchmen!
It’s about time to admit what the GOP and even Cruz will never tell you. The GOP, Conservatives, and even Ted Cruz know that catering to the wants and wishes of a dwindling few die-hard, freedom loving, patriotic Americans is now a non-starter and has been for awhile now.
Democrats and Republicans alike know that to get anywhere, the foreign influx must be stroked and appeased. That also includes the raving lunatic minorities that have been created by this lax society. Obama seems unconcerned because he is. He has it in the bag. All he has to do now is sit back and watch Republicans, conservative and moderate alike, do what they do best; which is to eat their own.
Obama at his worst has never earned the absolute ridicule, disgust and criticism nor the discussion time as does one Republican who doesn’t perform according to expectations. One can turn on any conservative news broadcast or talk show they choose and they will hear very little about the Communist/Marxist imposter that we have elected to the highest office in our land twice. It’s all about trashing Republicans by Republicans.
I, for one, think the ship sailed when Obama was elected to a second term because the alternative just didn’t fit the bill of his own party majority, even though he was duly elected in a primary because some just couldn’t “compromise their principles.”
Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and Ted Cruz know that any future left to this nation belongs to the whims and demands of those who aren’t even remotely American, much like our Fearless Leader. He sits in the Whitehouse today for just the same reasons. Unfortunately, Republicans aren’t as good as Democrats and Liberals at sucking up to every special interest that pops up. But they’re learning and fast!
And Boehner knew the Senate would vote against it.
Isn't it just as true that democrats need to fund DHS, and that's high ground too? Why would it be okay for Obama to veto a bill and shut down DHS to preserve his program to give American jobs to illegal aliens? We should at the very least make him veto it, then explain just how much damage he is willing to do to working Americans to reward criminals, and then pass short-term spending bills for DHS that (1) keep it open, and (2) specifically exclude spending to help criminals to take American jobs. It's much harder to veto short-term bills, and that will accomplish the same goal.
The GOPe is offering a fig leaf for now. Their real immigration deal will install, by legislation, most of Obama’s executive order. Their real complaint with Obama is that he did not wait for them.
The political party that has the imitation of the French Army down to perfection, fight? I agree ROFLOL!!!
McConnell and McInsain should have tattoos of white flags on their foreheads.
They will jaw and posture and do nothing just like the House has done the last four years. If Congress forgoes using the power of the purse and impeachment is off the table they have no power whatsoever.
