I forget which American showed up at a rally in Paris and said “Lafayette we are here,”

Wilson in the summer of 1919 ???
You’re thinking of the first time this was said, and it was said by an actual soldier — Black Jack Pershing — not by an overintellectualized academic who became President and thought he could remake the world in the image of his academic theories — something that seems to happen every hundred years or so.
Colonel Charles Stanton
It gets misattributed to Pershing. It was Col Stanton, one of Pershing’s aides.
he famous quote is often misattributed to Pershing.
thus sayeth Wikepedia.
At least I’m in good, or at least numerous, company.
your tagline — WWIII Islam versus the West — is what I was groping for. Apparently we’re going to be late to this ballgame just like we were to the last two.
Well at least one of them said it, and that’s more than what a lot of famous “quotes” have going for them.
In that era Americans still remembered our debt to France. Without Admiral de Grasse’s fleet and 3,000 French marines we couldn’t have trapped Cornwallis at Yorktown.
Granted, they are publishing cartoons everyone else is afraid to even show when they do news stories about them, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We still have the death penalty, and one of their right-wing politicians was banned from the rally for suggesting they should bring it back.
Yep, I’m afraid so. France has declared war on radical Islam while our spineless politicians won’t even utter the name.
“Appearing on Saturday in Evry, a town just south of Paris, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said the country is at war against radical Islam.
We are at war not a war against a religion, not a war against a civilization, but to defend our values, which are universal, he proclaimed.
It is a war against terrorism, against jihadism, against radical Islam, against everything that is aimed at breaking fraternity, freedom, solidarity, Valls continued.
We cannot let pass a single one of these messages, or a single one of these acts. Our indignation must be clear, total and last longer than three days. It must be permanent.
We need standards, values and authority. There must be a firm message about the values of the republic and secularism.
Journalists were killed because they defended freedom. Policemen were killed because they were protecting you, he said, and Jews were killed because they were Jewish.”
France declares war on savage radical Islamics while our CNC declares war on his golf handicap.
I'll give France some credit when they kick out the Palestinian Authority representatives and apologize to Israel for their decades of stupidity. Since that's not going to happen, I'll remind you of that oft quoted joke that for a time those rifles were indeed held before being dropped. Today they hold them, tomorrow they'll get around to dropping them again.
Because at the end of the day, NOTHING is as appealing to the French than to also blame the Jews. Perhaps they won't think of shape shifting ones, but it will always be the fault of the Jews. To think otherwise is racist (yes, I've actually heard people say that...)
I heard a French-Jewish comedian say: “First they pushed us into the ovens - now they’re pushing us into freezers!” Made me laugh.
Indignation isn’t going to kill people who need killing, but I’m certainly glad for the blow struck against political correctness.
A couple of months ago, Cameron declared war on radical islam. Haven’t heard a peep from him since. Or action, of course.
I look at the Jews and remember the huguenots.
The ad for the never fired dropped once rifle is an utterly ignorant joke. And utterly unjustified.
The French had about 1.3 million soldiers killed in WWI, compared to the british 875k.
In WWII, in the battle of France, the French lost about 85,000 compared to the British losing about 10,000. The Germans lost about 150,000 dead and wounded and 28% of the Luftwaffe.
In WWI the -tea drinking- surrender monkeys love to talk about the miracle at Dunkirk. Thats where they ran away from their side of the salient and left the French on their own.
And does anyone remember Singapore? That was where 85,000 Brits surrendered to 36,000 Japs.
The French fought long and hard and the Collapse was the result of a new warfighting strategy the Nazis used. The whole world was unprepared.
The only French who can be fairly slandered were some political leaders, but not their soldiers.
It is dense to slander the French military.
And also more Germans surrendered than French.
“Indignation isnt going to kill people who need killing,”
No it won’t. But what it does do is make that possible. When enough people recognize that one side is good, and one is evil, THAT is the critical element. I’ve heard people ridicule the marches, etc. But the wide spread of the -idea- is what makes it palatable for the leaders to finally decide they better do something about it.
Especially since the joke was about an italian rifle.
