What Dallas’s historically low murder rate can teach us about policing
Washington Post ^ | January 12, 2015 | Radley Balko

Here at The Watch, we’ve praised Dallas Police Chief David Brown and his staff for the department’s community-oriented approach to policing, openness and transparency about excessive force, its rejection of law enforcement as a revenue generator, and its First Amendment-friendly approach to protest.

Now, there’s some evidence of a payoff.

Dallas’ 2014 murder rate was its lowest since 1930 — the year Bonnie and Clyde met at a West Dallas house party.

And the Dallas Police Department’s preliminary count of 116 murders last year — there is one unexplained death awaiting a ruling — would be the lowest yearly murder tally since 1965. It’s also a notable drop from the 143 murders in 2013 and it’s fewer than half the murders recorded in 2004.

[Snip]

But it isn’t just the murder rate; the overall crime rate also continues to drop in Dallas.

The libtards at the comPost forgot to mention that 1,000,000 citizens carrying concealed handguns ... combined with the strongest enforcement of capital punishment in the U.S. might ... might also have some influence on our low murder rate.

Everbody in Texas carries firearms. Must mess with the liberal gun grabber’s heads. Tthey lack the common sense to understand why too...

Libtards just don’t understand the concept that punishment prevents future crime or that God has anything to do with a moral and stable civilization...all just because they want to do whatever they want without consequences and make you pay for it if there is...

“...It’s quite possible that the drop had nothing to do policing strategy at all and instead was the product of rising standards of living, an aging population, or even environmental factors like a decrease in childhood exposure to lead....”

Jeez, I guess the Chicago ‘RATS are seeding their neighborhoods with lead.

Since I don’t live there, or know what the makeup of Dallas is, I’m going out on a limb here.

I’d say a huge, unsung, contributing factor to the low crime rate is the lack of those who commit the majority of violent crime in our country, Black males.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

We also still put FELONS IN JAIL, despite Holder’s best efforts. So it’s probably best if the Washington Post reporters not try to explain Texas, they will NEVER be able to understand us...much less report accurately.

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina (in 2005) Houston got a wave of “refugees” from New Orleans. It didn’t take long for the “refugees” to get back to their New Orleans lifestyle - which included drug dealing, robbery, and just about every other felony.

But something was different for them here - as reported back then (maybe I’ll find the article again some day). They ran into a buzz-saw of REPUBLICAN JUDGES that treated them a bit differently than the “judges” back in the Old Country (back there, they literally equate jail with slavery). So, if a guy got convicted of armed robbery in Houston, he was looking at 15 years or so of REAL TIME, rather than being told he was a bad boy, but still getting out in time to Best Man at his sister’s wedding a month later.

It was fun to read that article.

El Paso, which has about half the population of Dallas, has averaged only about twenty homicides annually for the past ten or fifteen years. That’s about one tenth what Dallas averages annually. Why is that?

It’s like someone said (I can’t remember who), “An armed society is a polite society.”

Since I got my CCW and started carrying, my level of courtesy towards others has gone up. I even tip my hat to ladies.

The post writer never even gets close to the idea that many Dallas citizens, legally carrying their guns and Bibles, contribute to these low crime stats.

If it even occurs to him, he would never mention it.

NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE.

No there are more blacks here, than in southern California, quite a bit more.

I believe what Dallas is doing right, is the economy.

We need as America, to build up America’s economy once again. We need to buy stuff made in the USA, and we need to have jobs for Americans.

That is why Dallas is succeeding. Dallas is growing.

America needs to do this. Grow and build right here, and stop supporting every other country on earth.

Support America.

That is what keeps crime low. People have jobs.

Well, there are 24% black population in Dallas, and about the same in the large cities of California.

No doubt it is the concealed carry of Texans, that makes the difference.

But, anyone who credits the economy for a low violent crime rate is just sadly deluded. That theory is what has given us 50 years of welfare fixes and fuels libtards demands for more and more money to fix social ills. It is a libtard talking point.

People do not commit crimes because they are poor. They are poor because they commit crimes. And, a good economy (or a few trillion in welfare benefits) doesn’t fix any of the things that cause crime.

That explains why The First 48 is now presenting the Tulsa Police Department, rather than the Dallas Police Department.

Same answer. Unemployed people don’t commit crimes because they are unemployed. They are unemployed because they are criminals and commit crimes. If you don’t get that, register as a Demorat.

And, if it was all about employment and good jobs, Washington DC would be the safest place in the nation.

It is not the unemployed that commit crimes. It is criminals that commit crimes. And, because of that they are largely unemployed.

You are right about Washington, but it is unusual.

Dallas, and Texas in general, have a strong economy.

More cities need to focus on bringing back American jobs. We have as a country sold out America long enough.

Bring back US jobs.

Texas, where the death penalty means so much more than just “we’ll feed you til you die”. We’re proactive.

Instead of putting up with black crime in their neighborhoods(Chicago, etc), blacks actually report crime, patrol their neighborhoods, etc.

But there is a second issue, and that is the reclassification of crime under the Police Chief. As a result, Dallas crimes under-reported.

There are plenty of jobs. They are just being done by illegals who will do them for 50% of what it would cost if they and their crooked employers were paying taxes and providing benefits.

Labor is a supply and demand economic model and if there is an unlimited supply of illegals, which there is, no amount of new jobs will help.

Kick these line jumpers out and make employment of illegals a mandatory jail sentence for employers is the only cure. Problem is, the GOP and the Chamber of Commerce are behind the supply of illegals.
