British Prime Minister David Cameron, US Attorney General Eric Holder and French President Francois Hollande were among the leaders taking part.

The politicians stood arm in arm to lead the march, which was preceded by a declaration from Mr Hollande that 'today, Paris is the capital of the world'.

Giant letters attached to a statue in the Place de la République spelt out the word ‘Pourquoi?’ (‘Why?’) and small groups sang the national anthem.

As many as 1.5million people flooded Paris for the march today, while 600,000 rallied in towns and cities around France outside of the capital.

Other noted world leaders in the city included German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko and Italian PM Matteo Renzi.

Thanks for posting this. Other media outlets are downplaying attendance numbers, or ignoring this demonstration all together.
I understand the necessity for actual action to combat islamo savages.
However, at least the french have enough sense of national identity to do something in solidarity, ie: 1.5 Million show up for a demonstration in a country of 64 Million.
Please see my tagline -
Where is our outrage at being bankrupted by morally bankrupt leaders and bankers?
What will it take?
Retorical question, not directed at any of the good FReepers here.

Liberals are going to do what they always do and hijack this. The French are passed and want the Muslim invasion stopped. Libs are going to show this is a march to support Muslims and immigration from third world chess pools. Then, it will morph in to some anti capitalism save the earth BS.

This almost entirely political theater. With the exception of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the other leaders mostly offer words instead of actions in the war with islamist militants/terrorists. The so-called leader of the USA didn’t even bother to show up.

For Obama to miss this particular photo opportunity, it will be comparable to missing the chance to be on one of the most famous album covers of 1960’s “The Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. It can never be repeated, nor will Obama’s conspicuous absence be forgotten.

CNN’s Jake Tapper was there and quite impressed. Also, embarrassed that the US had almost zero representation.

Here’s my problem with this. I don’t so much need to see the heads of state marching against terrorism, although its nice. And I have noticed a few missing. But what I need to see is Moderate Muslims (heads of Muslim Mosques) up front and vocal, holding up signs that condemn radical Muslims. I want them up front and counted. I demand that they say which side they are on. That they stand up to their murderous sons and say you have taken a dark turn towards evil and we are not with you.

Every now and then you’ll see some pot belly weasel of a
dictator start talking smack about the U.S. and act like
they are standing up to us but in the back rooms where the
deals are made they back down in fear. It’s all fake and
bluster just to make them look big and tough in front of the
proletariat.
That’s all this is. It’s the liberal weasels trying to
look tough. This is just another Obama line in the sand and
as usual it will be crossed and everyone of these weak little
tards will soon look as foolish as usual.

That isn't accurate. France basically said it was a fools errand to invade Iraq and it would create a Pandora's box. It was. And it created the testing grounds to export jihad throughout the world.

France has lost the 4th most military members of any other country in Iraq after the Iraqis, US, and the UK. They have done their part like they always do. They were against the invasion plan. And that should have been respected instead of bashed.

Not if the NO-GOers were given a week to hold garage sales and GTFO of France prior to the march. The ones left would be deported by SWAT, with the marchers body-surfing the neutralized ones back to the trailer.

Yeah but this time I think they're really serious.

The other day I saw that they were lighting candles!

NOTHING says "serious" to a bunch of libs like burning candles.

Also, embarrassed that the US had almost zero representation-——————
‘Should the political winds shift,..’ zero laid it all out years ago. Anyone surprised or embarrassed is in denial about poshitus.

“But what I need to see is Moderate Muslims”

No such thing exists. The difference between a
“Moderate Muslim” and a jihaditard is tactical advantage.
Once they are established in a state and are 10-15% of the
population then they all go jihad.

They banned an entire political party from their freedom rally!

If I was a Muslim radical planning to tear down France, I’d be laughing too. :)

‘We are here to support freedom.”

But not freedom for everyone. Just for those who knuckle under to Islam.

I remember Rush Limbaugh (back when he was interesting) referencing a fictional book titled 'Great Moderates in American History'...a very short book filled with blank pages. In other words, great moderates don't exist.

'Moderate muslim'...same principle.

Pourquoi? Quite simple...because you aren’t a muslim; so you deserve to die.
