It seems to me that all through history it has been that to win a war you need to break the will of the enemy.
A ‘sanitary’ war with pin prick strikes will not do it. The enemy must be totally defeated, their lives made unbearable, their country left a smoking ruin, the populace unwilling to support or tolerate their leadership.
That IMHO is the only way to stop a subsequent war from starting anytime soon.
