A statuesque beauty.

Also, no plastic surgeon could create such a classically lovely bustline.

In the early 60s Playboy did a very classic & artistic shot of her which unfortunately I can’t post. But it’s here:

Interestingly, when I did the search for that photo (I actually recall seeing it at the time, my dad had a subscription for a year) it brought up so many similar pictures from that period. It got me thinking of what most of today’s teenage boys and young men are missing. Most of them have no clue what real breasts look like, and how much better the real thing is.

Or what good, classic (and classy) nudes are. Not today’s in your face sleazy.

My dad was a very serious hobbist photographer; had a darkroom in the basement and subscribed to several photo magazines.

Can’t recall how old I was, maybe 9 or 10, when I saw an art nude of a young Anita Ekberg in one of those magazines. Deep black shadows type of thing, tastefully posed, nothing explicit. Zowie! Of course that lead me to go through several years of back copies.

My dad was gratified to see me express interest in a serious hobby instead of comic books.

I learned an awful lot reading...lens test reports. ;>)

Don’t you remember how fathers would quickly say “I read it for the interviews!” whenever an eyebrow was raised over a provocative cover? That was a cliché of the 1960s, lol.

We never had it in the house - my mother would have gone bananas. My brother and I had to settle for Bob Hope comic books. Which were pretty good.

Anita Ekberg lived in Italy until her death.

She is famous for her scene in Frederico Fellini’s classic, “La Dolce Vita” - where she gets wet in a black strapless dress in Trevi Fountain in Rome. Its one of the most iconic scenes in all of cinema.

She was a star in the 60s but faded from the limelight in the 1970s. Ekberg was reportedly penniless at the time of death in Rome.

Its kind of sad - she was a very beautiful woman in her youth was much sought after by men but life in the end wasn’t too kind to her. When she was 20 she deservedly won the Miss Sweden title in the land of her birth.

Ekberg will always be remembered as the symbol of the “sweet life” of post-war Italy in the 1960s. May she RIP.

This occurred well before the first Playboy hit the stands.

Speaking of which, PB used to have a cartoon feature character, Little Annie Fanny, with overblown bosom.

I understand they stopped it when real women started getting implants larger than the cartoon character. Where’s the joke then?

That made her famous.

And every boy and man in the 1960s wanted to be with her.

No one else could have made it work as effortlessly as Ekberg did.

Its a memorable scene.
