Fox News Channel is showing the huge rally in France. World leaders were shown boarding a bus to attend the rally. Apparently at least some of them will be giving speeches (hopefully, at least one of them will use the term RADICAL).

Seems a bit difficult to take action against a religion. Especially in the U.S. where freedom of religion is protected by our constitution. What action would you suggest?

For starters, don’t consider it a religion, it is a political philosophy, a justice system, an economic system, etc. . That makes it easier. That would make their US activities taxable. Halt immigration from muslim countries. Muslim countries “take action” against Christians. We’re talking about existence here, unless you’re sporting a COEXIST bumper sticker.

If the government could designate the world’s second most popular religion as “not a religion” then the government could do likewise to any other religion that has fallen out of favor.

The problem as I see it, is not the religion itself, but religious zealotry. People throughout history have gotten carried away with their religion and used it to justify all sorts of crimes. Even Christianity. How do you do away with religious zealotry? Tone down the righteous fervor associated with it, as the Christians have done. I’m not sure that outside institutions are going to have much luck until Muslims themselves decide that enough is enough.

Yes. We, in the West have the bad habit of wordiness — loud, insulting wordiness — when what is important is to BE strong. Remember the old truism, “actions speak louder than words”?

We should say “no,” mean no, and stand and act on our answer. It’s simple and hard, and we’re complex and soft.

I suspect the days of national character and leadership are forever gone. But it might pay to remember that the loudest, most menacing sound between two ears is often a whisper followed by the click of a gun. It gets the job done.
