It’s EASY to defend speech you agree with. Where the rubber meets the road, and genuine passion for free speech shows is not disagreeing with James Carville, or Ann Coulter and claiming “See, I support free speech”.
It’s when we permit (we don’t agree with it, but it goes) things we viscerally despise, to be presented in the public forum for all to discuss that we show our TRUE passion for the freedom to speak one’s mind. No matter how petty, offensive or distasteful, speech MUST be free.
If you don’t like Hustler mag, don’t buy it! Think that Free Republic is a bunch of far-right radicals? Don’t read it! Any thing less is the tyranny of the majority, or the loudest, or the most sensitive, or the politically correct, or...
