12. Favorite Item in the Apartment: A massive painting that I got in Iran, a few years ago, by Farideh Lashai, a friend who is also Iran’s pre-eminent abstract-expressionist painter. It gives me joy every time I walk in my door.

One could question the artist’s intended meaning for the painting, but what’s important is Amanpour’s interpretation of it’s meaning.
Abstract art gives the viewer some leeway in that regard.
From everything we know about Amanpour’s pro-Muslim and anti-Semitic views, 9-11 is almost certainly what it means to her, and that’s why it gives her joy.
