Boehner Defends His Conservatism: I’m Not a ‘Squish,’

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is defending his conservative bona fides after a failed attempt by conservatives to oust him from his speakership.

“It does pain me to be described as spineless or a squish,” Boehner said to chuckles from reporters. “I tell you what pains me the most is when they describe me as ‘the establishment.’ Now I’m the most anti-establishment speaker we’ve ever had.”

“Who was the guy who got rid of earmarks? Me,” he continued. “Who’s the guy who believes in regular order? Me. Who believes in allowing more members to participate in the process from both sides of the aisle? Me.”

Tuesday, on the first day of the 114th Congress, 25 House conservatives — encouraged by outside conservative groups and pundits — voted against Boehner’s reelection as speaker.

When asked about why he faced such conservative opposition, the Speaker explained it comes with the job.

“I’ve given some thought to this as you might imagine,” he said. “The American people are very frustrated. They’re frustrated in a struggling economy, frustrated that they don’t think Washington’s listening and they want action. I talk to Americans everyday, talk to my constituents everyday. And this frustration that’s out there — they need to take it out on somebody. They take it out on the President, take it out on me. It comes with the territory.”

Boehner argued further that when he voted as a member, he had the eighth most conservative voting record in Congress.

Actions, not lies, is what he needs to do to prove it.

Let’s see how he performs ... then we can pummel him with his own words if he doesn’t. Then again, truth is not a value most professional politicians hold dear.

Wasn’t it Thatcher who said “Being powerful is like being a lady, if you have to tell people you are, you aren’t?”

yes it was Margaret Thatcher that said this.

It is a great quote.

Works for me overall. It’s true. Thats the only thing that really matters.

Which, I realize, is a radical notion around here lately. Offensive too.

The limpest squishiest speaker ever.
Somewhat like overcooked asparagus.

At least he’s reflecting on it. Obola wouldn’t dream of it.

Compromise doesn’t mean make suicide pacts so you can move on. That’s my major issue. He sat still for Obamacare, when the left will literally use everything at their disposal to defeat something from the right.

Whither DOMA? Wasn’t that the law of the land? Hasn’t every STATE ruling against gay marriage been set aside by a FEDERAL court?

And I’m not suggesting we all die on that hill either. Abortion is the law of the land too, and the stigma of it is driving it toward extinction. Abortion is morally, environmentally, fiscally, religiously, and LEGALLY indefensible, as legal as it may be. It’s starting to show. There are fewer abortions.

The hill worth dying on in the gay marriage debate is the coequality of rights. You may have the right to marry your ass-friend, but that doesn’t mean your right to marry means the baker has to endorse something he thinks is sinful in order so that you can celebrate. It doesn’t mean you have the right to sue him out of existence.

There are anatomical, psychological, parental, and societal reasons why gay marriage, for lack of a much better term, is wrong as hell (literally). That means that if we have a problem with homosexuals leading adolescent boys into the woods, you’re going to have to deal with it.

You come back with some SCIENCE that says that either a) homosexuality REALLY IS normative, or b) that homosexuality is a treatable psychological condition or mental disorder that responds to pharmaceutical interventions, and then we can look at it all again.

There is nothing HATEFUL in pushing back against the excesses of all of this. I don’t think 100 pound 20 year old girls should be forward deployed. It isn’t because I don’t like girls. I just think that the poor 250 lbs SAW gunner isn’t going to make it off the battlefield if she’s the only one left to carry you off.

It’s also why I don’t think they make very good firefighters, either. It’s heavy work. If the law didn’t require firefighters to roll on EMT calls, then there’s no way they could be EMTs either.

We’ve got structural, fiscal, and sovereign issues to solve. I don’t want to lose in 2016 because the right wasn’t ‘gay enough’. I think people have had it with militant gays, and islam. I’d run against both.

The right should be about letting folks be who they want, but they don’t get to bully churches, bakers, schools, and adoption agencies into doing what they want them to do.

Smaller government is better - let them get together. HOWEVER, that means that family law became COMPLETELY BLIND to gender. No more presumptive rights for the mother, since there’s either two of them, or none of them, or some fraction of one of them. Churches that want to tell them to bugger off should be allowed to do so. Same with anyone else that has some problem with it.

Boehner has a LOT of problems to address. Ram Keystone home, and let’s move on to defunding and derailing Obolacare one piece at a time.

He’s not squishy, he’s a statist, just like so many in DC (and other levels of government) these days whether the have an D or R after their names.

They all work together to keep the big government utopia dream alive, even though they’ve bankrupted this country many times over in reality. The statists everywhere will collapse the whole thing before they admit they are wrong.

Now he’s in the same parallel universe that Obambi and his puppet handlers are in: up is down, black is white, etc.

He truly is delusional or drunk, and has no idea of what conservatism is.
