WASHINGTON Sen. Barbara Boxer, Californias junior senator since her election in 1992 and a former Marin County supervisor, announced Thursday that she will not run for re-election when her term expires in 2016.
Boxer, 74, made her decision public via a video release with her grandson Zach Rodham.

He think about it running too also that guy
I think going be somebody else could be state TOP Cop Kamala Harris
The latter, possibly. Good call.
Newsom wants to be Governor. The white liberals who run the Cal Dems are going to give it to him. That's what Villar really wants too. But Senator will be his consolation prize.
Maybe.
Would be interesting to get Kim Guifoyle - Newsom's ex wife, the one who left him for banging his campaign managers wife - to run for either State Attorney General or Senator as a Republican. She acts modern conservative on the Fox news channel. She was a Prosecutor in Los Angeles right out of law school before she became Gavin's hood ornament.
Be hard to beat: she's a real victim, she's a she, and she's Puerto Rican-Irish in addition to being um, attractive.
And I think she really did have a change of outlook after Newsom dragged her through the mud.
But don't look to the Cal Republican Party for any ideas like that. Maybe they'll dredge up Kashkari again so he try to transfix us with his Indian Swami I-Will-Hypnotize-You stare again.
Whudda Klown.
LOL.
“I hear Arnold Schwarzenegger is between jobs right now...
(Can’t believe I typed that with a straight face!) “
You mean to tell me he’s through hosing his maid?
“No, San Francisco wants a transgender senator this time around.”
Tom Amianno?
No, MO. ;-)
without a doubt!
What state do I represent? Uh, um, it's ah, give me a moment.....
I like Kimberly a lot - well spoken and easy on the eyes for you guys ;-)
I think you’re right in that she’s a moderate conservative but that would be the most one could hope for from Cali. I think she lives in NY, so she’d probably have to move back to Cali and give up her gigs on FNC to run, not sure that she would want to do either.
“Are there no principled Republicans out there?”
Ignoring the intended sarcasm, California is ruled. mot by the average Joe voter, but by the special interest unions. These unions are primarily public service employee unions....
Any Republican/conservative who declares for US Senator will be immediately (the next day) be the subject of negative ads put out by the California Teachers Association, soon to be followed by SEUI purple shirted ads.
The crazies in San Francisco, and LA will join in and soon after we will have the LIVs herded into pulling the “D” leaver again!
It’s the same old pattern that repeats itself every election year and as sure as a Babs Boxer election ad calling her challenger an “far right wing wacko...” bo matter how moderate or Rinoish they are...
Oh, you don’t think Boxer and Feinstein stay in tiny Fairfax all that much, do ya?
Boxer is from New York anyway. She probably parties up and down the Eastern seaboard, comes back to California to get her re-election nailed down, then sails on back to where the real fun is.
Yet another Republican party fail: they can’t dislodge this vacuous, nasty back room agitator. Back in the 80s even the SF Dems hated her, she’s the kind of person who steps on other people’s toes just for spite.
I agree. It’s a sad indictment of an entire state that is dominated by the dwellers in only three cities...
My giveagoodgoshdam is broken.
Abortion Barbie, please pick up the white courtesy telephone.
California, and a career in the Senate awaits!
I hope the good general gets a chance to tell her off before she goes.
That is so rude and childish.
She’ll only be 76 - by Senate standards that’s practically a rookie. I wonder who the seat will be delivered to as a reward for their loyal service to the Establishment? Somebody who couldn’t wait for Babs to emulate Strom Thurmond, that’s for sure. Probably Villaraigosa or some similar Professional Mexican.
I wonder if that means she's betting Hillary or another Dem won't be President after 2016?
To be fair, the competition is fierce...
