Don’t project your personal weakness on everybody.
I have not been in that situation, but I would not RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING admit that I would trade 12+ lives for my own and a child.
This is how the Nazis ran Auschwitz, with Jews doing much of the heavy lifting, literally, as in gas-chamber body removal. Or playing in the orchestra meant to lull the next victims into the showers.
The Nazis found Jews who would do ANYTHING to live another week or month.
BUT NOT ALL OF THEM!
