Corrine Rey and her daughter saw two other cartoonists being killed

They threatened her into giving them entry code for the office building

She says men 'who spoke perfect French' claimed to be Al Qaeda terrorists

Attackers were reportedly heard shouting: 'the Prophet has been avenged'

The masked men asked people's names before killing editor and cartoonist

'There were several corpses on the floor,' said office worker from building

He entered room right after attackers had gone to see 'blood everywhere'

A young mother and cartoonist who survived the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris today said she had let the suspected Al Qaeda killers into the magazine office.

Corrine Rey said she had returned from picking up her young daughter from a kindergarten when she was confronted by two heavily armed men wearing balaclavas.

'I had gone to pick up my daughter at day care, arriving in front of the magazine building, where two masked and armed men brutally threatened us,' said Ms Rey, who draws under the name 'Coco'.

'They said they wanted to go up to the offices, so I tapped in the code,' said Ms Rey, referring to the digi-code security system on the inter-phone.

Miss Rey and her daughter hid under a desk, from where they saw two other cartoonists being executed.

'They shot Wolinski and Cabu,' she said, 'It lasted five minutes. I had taken refuge under a desk.

She said the men 'spoke French perfectly' and 'claimed they were 'Al Qaeda terrorists'.

I don’t think that she was security. I think that she just happened to be returning to the site. It sounds like the only security at that particular entry point was a lock accessed by a code.

The article states that she was a cartoonist.

It seems to me that they had a lot of information about the office.

According to a Swedish/French journalist who had been working with some of the victims the cartoonist did not usually spend their time at the Charlie Hebdo office, but convened there for editorial meetings only.

Were the terrorists lucky or did they know?

Anyway, their luck may soon have run out. According to a French newspaper the police have identified them......

They had “security” officers at the front door apparently, are those the unarmed guys who fled or were killed?

At any rate...they’d had threats and bombings before so this should not have surprised them...rather it just seems they didn’t have appropriate security given their history.

They can’t secure the building with guns.France outlawed guns. I think even the police are unarmed. seems like the laws in France leave most people sitting ducks as the gun free zone laws here in the USA do. those police the Islamics gunned down in this attack didn’t have guns. the Islamics had automatic weapons.

Possible, but it can also be spoofed. They just say, “He’s staying with you until the job is done. Anything goes wrong, any silent alarms, you and the kid die.”

What they needed was an actual tough guard at the door without a baby to threaten for gosh-sakes.

Some retired paratrooper type over 50 years old who would have said, “Eff you, Abdul! and gone for the AK-47, starting it right on the street where it ended after all.

“You would trade 12+ coworkers for one grandchild? How about 100 coworkers? How about 100 toddlers in a day-care center?”

We all know you would stand and say, “here, slay my grandchild to save yon others. Farewell my sweet child. Do not weep, for we will meet in heaven.”!

But then of course, before they could fire, you would launch faster than a mambas strike right into a spin kick, disarm all three terrorists, and save the child (who you were fully prepared to see die). You then stand and receive medals and eternal admiration from all the coworkers who bake a cake in your honor.

As long as you were writing fiction, I thought I would help out.

I never said that I would trade anything. I said I would open the door.

Even if they arrest the murderers, I would not doubt they get to dictate conditions at trial and get a slap on the wrist.

So you would trade 12+ coworkers lives for your life and your child, okay. How about 20? 50? 100?

Dude, brother, friend, go easy man. You are a soldier, you are used to thinking in these terms of "acceptable losses", even your own or your children. These are mostly civilians (like me) who are not as hardened. They are going to likely choose to preserve their kids.... especially when faced with a definite death of their kid versus a 'maybe' on the coworkers.

French Police are known for being mean, but who knows, maybe the culprits will commit suicide upon being accosted.

A mother has to make a split-second decision. Do I put in the code, or do I have my beloved child’s brains splattered all over me?

Really, she had no other choice.

Concur. Let's give it a rest.

When would you suggest we discuss such things with the cold, hard, realism of an after action report?

NOBODY LIKE THAT SHOULD HAVE HAD THE CODE.

This is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.

They also could have kidnapped her at home and gotten the code, etc. The only people with the code should have been old “give a hell” retired paratroopers, not MOTHERS WITH BABIES!

Hello????? THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!

Being asked to take that spot, I would be complaining of the obvious weakness. Me with or without kid, and not even a pistole.

Ridiculous extrapolation.

A mother’s basic instinct to protect her child supercedes all else.

Even in the world of the lower animals.
