A young mother and cartoonist who survived the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris today said she had let the suspected Al Qaeda killers into the magazine office.
Corrine Rey said she had returned from picking up her young daughter from a kindergarten when she was confronted by two heavily armed men wearing balaclavas.
'I had gone to pick up my daughter at day care, arriving in front of the magazine building, where two masked and armed men brutally threatened us,' said Ms Rey, who draws under the name 'Coco'.
'They said they wanted to go up to the offices, so I tapped in the code,' said Ms Rey, referring to the digi-code security system on the inter-phone.
Miss Rey and her daughter hid under a desk, from where they saw two other cartoonists being executed.
'They shot Wolinski and Cabu,' she said, 'It lasted five minutes. I had taken refuge under a desk.
She said the men 'spoke French perfectly' and 'claimed they were 'Al Qaeda terrorists'.

One could design a dual code system, a normal one, and another one that would silently alert a heavily armed on premises guard to meet the “visitors.”

Exactly my point. The success of their plan depended on not firing a shot until they had gotten upstairs to the editorial meeting. If they had “gone loud” on the street, their primary target would have escaped, and it probably would have devolved into a running gun battle on the streets of Paris, much like what happened after they left the office.
None of us would disagree with you. I can’t imagine being in that situation.
I have a serious problem that they even had a woman at the door ....why not security since they had been threatened and even one bombing.....that’s just foolish not having security at their door and instead just a woman with a kid no less.
Heck the editor had his own security body guard so they understood the threats against them clearly.
Just poor planning on their part.

Yes... a second Charlie will need to be better armed, unless that is plain forbidden in Paris.
Give it a rest. Unarmed mom against 3 dedicated killers. If they attacked her kid, she would protect her child. On the flip side, mothers are not quite so fast to offer their child up for murder/sacrifice.

Perhaps, but they had a very bad security PLAN with a known “weak link” (a lady returning after lunch with a toddler, who opens the door with a code.)
Being that Charlie Hebdo was a known terror target, this is inexcusable. ANYBODY with the code should not have been such an obvious “weak link.” My guess is that terrorist surveillance revealed the weak link, and their way in.
Their plan depended on getting inside and going upstairs BEFORE going loud with the AK-47s.
And it worked perfectly.
Yes...and even an alarm itself...these people knew they were targets before this and did not plan well for that.
This happening is simplythe Military Wing of Islam doing what they say they will do....for any to think they are exempt is foolish and dangerous.
