Daily Mail ^ | January 7, 2015 | Peter Allen

Corrine Rey and her daughter saw two other cartoonists being killed

They threatened her into giving them entry code for the office building

She says men 'who spoke perfect French' claimed to be Al Qaeda terrorists

Attackers were reportedly heard shouting: 'the Prophet has been avenged'

The masked men asked people's names before killing editor and cartoonist

'There were several corpses on the floor,' said office worker from building

He entered room right after attackers had gone to see 'blood everywhere'

A young mother and cartoonist who survived the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris today said she had let the suspected Al Qaeda killers into the magazine office.

Corrine Rey said she had returned from picking up her young daughter from a kindergarten when she was confronted by two heavily armed men wearing balaclavas.

'I had gone to pick up my daughter at day care, arriving in front of the magazine building, where two masked and armed men brutally threatened us,' said Ms Rey, who draws under the name 'Coco'.

'They said they wanted to go up to the offices, so I tapped in the code,' said Ms Rey, referring to the digi-code security system on the inter-phone.

Miss Rey and her daughter hid under a desk, from where they saw two other cartoonists being executed.

'They shot Wolinski and Cabu,' she said, 'It lasted five minutes. I had taken refuge under a desk.

She said the men 'spoke French perfectly' and 'claimed they were 'Al Qaeda terrorists'.

I thought that was Rhino’s parody.

Like it or not, God has put us in a messy life integrated with all manner of things, not just warfare.

You could be cranking out those $1.50 checkout stand novels. Why are you wasting time here?

Actually that was good. It would have won a Clancy award, if there was a Clancy contest.

A moral question at the core. Save your child and yourself and allow others to be killed in your place or sacrifice you child and yourself to save other innocents, probably for a short period of time. And you have no garuntee the killers won’t kill you if you help them however it is likely they would not to maintain credibility. An evil position to be put in.

Also she provides credibility that if you help us you will not be harmed. At least not presently.

As horrifying as it is to you, I didn’t research you carefully, because you just aren’t that important.

Only a "mean girl" can be so deluded as to think they can change proof she shoots her mouth off before knowing anything, into an accusation against the one making the observation.

And don’t kid yourself, his service is equaled and utterly eclipsed by numerous posters here.

Name one who will show their bona fides and agree with you.

I see we're still waiting for you to give as much information about yourself as Mr. Bracken has given.

No she wasn’t the gatekeeper, she was an employee returning to work.

Distinction without difference...and you want to talk about intellectual dishonesty?

Do you even know what it means?

Look, Travis has identified the true root cause and it wasn’t the mother. Anyone who thinks the true root cause is the mother is sick in the head.

She opened the door.

Are you removing her from the chain of causation?

Calling detractors to your political correctness “sick in the head” is no substitute for an actual argument in the Aristotelian sense.

"Are you removing her from the chain of causation?"

Go to the first link like Travis has. It is the root cause. The mother is a victim just like the 12 that died.

“Distinction without difference...and you want to talk about intellectual dishonesty?Do you even know what it means?”

Yes. I know there is a huge difference between a seasoned old paratrooper and a young mother.

I know it is intellectually and morally pathetic to blame a young mother because you expect her to act like a seasoned old paratrooper. A seasoned old paratrooper who says he will "sacrifice himself to save 12 others" doesn't have the right to demand that a young mother do the same.

I also know it is intellectually dishonest to set up fallacious hypothetical questions to beat others over the head with.

I have put my family's safety on the line publicly denouncing the “technobarbarians” as I think of them. Thus we had to be protected by FBI, local police, etc. at least had them involved in advance. This was 25+ years ago. I was scared, but being American, could build layers of protection around us. So I am aware of this danger we are placed in by a nihilist political leadership and a morally bankrupt culture. That said, had I been armed to fight and had to choose, I'd hope to not be around anymore to suffer what that mother is going to live with-- the knowledge that she saved her child but failed to protect that her from watching the execution of those brave journalists. No, it was a lose/lose for that mom in France yesterday. And my heart goes out to her for what she will endure from now on. Travis is an experienced fighter and he has every right to pound his point, given what he has done for the sake of our freedom to (still) argue on this Forum. But I cannot say to him, “Yes, I would have been willing to sacrifice my child in the name of liberty.” Impossible to know.

She did the right thing. As someone who has been on the receiving side of a gun, your survival instinct kicks in when someone tells you to do something or they will kill you. Protecting her daughter and herself was paramount.

Problems need to be fixed at the root cause; trying to fix them anywhere else is a symptom treatment. Problems that receive symptom treatments will never be fixed.

You would trade 12+ coworkers for one grandchild? How about 100 coworkers? How about 100 toddlers in a day-care center?

Be realistic. She just witnessed two of her colleagues shot dead in front of her and her child. It is a trumatic, horrifying experience. When they turn to her and say give us the code or we will kill you and your child, the normal, human response would be to save the life of your child and yourself. Anyone who thinks otherwise lives in a fantasy world ala Walter Mitty.

I am not Travis, nor do I subscribe to the “root cause excuses the action” theory. I don’t expect a mother to be a seasoned paratrooper, but neither do I expect fatuous excuses for a woman of the west “passing the buck” by virtue of her motherhood.

Either western women are the moral and philosophical equivalent of men, or they are not. Insipid name-calling in avoidance of that stark choice is another kind of cowardice, in and of itself. They don’t get to “ask for help” as well as “tell you how to do it” apart from the kind of intellectual dishonesty you are personally promoting.
