It depends.
I’m now unaffiliated. In some states there may be politcal parties with the name of independent.

Yeah, that was what I finally figured out. In Mexifornia, there is an American Independent Party on the ballot. “Other” would then be what some states call independent or as you said, unaffiliated.

I didn’t want to use ‘independent’ since I see all those in congress that are independent are liberals. I’m not sure what the distinction is when they are in office vs. us voters.
