That is one strange thing. They always build stadiums in the worst areas. I guess they feel they can at least clean up that area as a start. I must admit Baltimore was a dump until the stadium moved in and now it is a great city with lots to do around the stadium. So overall it is a positive for the area that gets the stadium.

Think it has more to do with the cost of the land. Can remember going to Dodger Stadium at Chaves Ravine. Before the stadium was built it was a low income Hispanic barrio.
Have not been there in decades so I don’t know what the area is like now.

Same with China Basin in San Fran. It was an old, worn-out industrial district and skid road. The new ball park revitalized the area and you can’t believe the billions of new investment that has flowed into the area. UCSF built their new campus just south of the ball park. Pretty soon, the hipsters will be keep on the move into Bayview / Hunters Point and crowd out the Section 8 cohort. Of course, the redevelopment of the old Candlestick area further south is going to help put the pincer squeeze onto those two high-crime areas.

Yes, right around the stadium/ballpark/aquarium is nice at times, but even the restaurant area of the Inner Harbor can be dangerous, and you certainly don’t want to go even a couple of blocks outside the area. There are regular muggings in the daytime around those office buildings there.

I have used hotel coupons to stay in Inglewood close to the airport. I predict a renaissance in the vicinity, the cheap hotels will be torn down and the pricey ones built.
