Strelnikov!
That’s Strelnikov Alright.
Reminded me of this:
L.A. to N.Y. in Half an Hour: 10,000 Plus M.P.H. Tunnel Train Used for Underground Bases?

The governments of China and Russia can waste all the money they have confiscated from their people on joint “infrastructure” projects, before they eventually declare war on each other.
As long as they aren't threatening the rest of the world, I don't care what they do.
My favorite line from that movie is when the Housing Commissar says to Yuri:
“You attitude has been noticed, you know!
It’s been noticed!”
“And lots of vodka”
Because it’s always worked so well in the past.
IS that cool? It sounds pretty cool. I love trains, my grandfather was a conductor on the 20th Century Limited that ran between NY and Chicago. He was actually offered a job when they were starting the TransSiberian railway, but he was already a married man with children so he didn’t take it.
“Trust me, I’m an engineer!” (Russian!)

Impressive! Both music and pictures. Would be nice to have a translation.
Particularly liked the picture of Stalin & Khrushchev.
More about their rail plans

Moscow - Peking
Russians and Chinese are brothers forever,
They Strengthen the unity of peoples and races.
Shoulders squared, a simple man,
With the song marches the simple man,
Stalin and Mao listen to us.
Chorus:
Moscow - Beijing
Moscow - Beijing
The peoples advance forward.
For world labor, for lasting peace
Under the banner of freedom.
The voice of the Yangtze is heard on the Volga
Chinese see the radiance of the Kremlin.
We are not afraid of military threats,
The will of the people is stronger than storms,
The world praises our victory.
Chorus.
In the world there were no stronger ties
In our ranks is the jubilant May.
The Soviet Union marches on,
The mighty Soviet Union,
Side by side with the new China!
Chorus.
Actually Aeroflot has improved dramatically over the last ten years due to competition from interior airlines like TransAero and having to compete with Western airlines now flying into Russia.
They have also modernized their fleet with Boeings and Airbus’s.
But TransAero is the big Russian success story; they went from startup to dominant carrier in less then a decade.
Lots of other carriers in Russia and the former Soviet republics; You can get pretty much anywhere with varying degrees of flight safety.
A train to Beijing will be oriented to freight. Flying would be the preference of pretty much everyone with any money.
Well that’s good that they’ve improved.
Still wouldn’t want to fly them though. If life was on the line, yeah. Not for anything else.
“Can a rail link from Moscow to Cuba be far behind? “
A travel agent friend had a woman client in all seriousness request a booking on Amtrak to Hawaii.
It might get built in Russian a few years behind schedule. in the US the environmental studies alone would take 25 years.
I rode Russian high-speed rail from Moscow to St. Petersburg and back. It was a very enjoyable experience. It doesn’t say in this article how fast this particular train will be. The one I was on was about 220 km/hour. It was awesome.
This is not true at all. The Sapsan high-speed from Moscow to St. Petersburg hits 220 km/h and it’s great.
The best international flight experience I’ve ever had was JFK to Moscow roundtrip on Aeroflot. Hot stewardesses, great food, and a very modern Airbus jet.
Aeroflot used to be the Soviet state airline. After the disappearance of the Soviet Union, it became the state carrier of Russia.
Most of the fleet is modern and up to date Boeing and Airbus jets. Much of the older Soviet-built fleet has now been retired.
Aeroflot has retained its famous flying sickle and hammer emblem because of the brand and the history behind it dating back to 1923.
As for the train, Russian Railways has to up to date rolling stock. A train ride through the vast Russian countryside is an absolutely unforgettable experience - on the Trans Siberian Express, it takes ten days to get from Moscow to the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok. Beyond that you can make connections to Beijing and in the future to Pyongyang and Seoul.
