When Kim Jong-un delivered his New Year message offering to participate in high-level talks with South Korea, the setting, his outfit and posture were all strikingly similar to those he adopted exactly two years earlier.
Two things, however, appeared radically different - the North Korean leader’s eyebrows.
In what appeared to be a case of severe over-plucking, Kim’s brows appeared to be significantly shorter than on earlier occasions, sitting above his eyes like little dashes.
Back in 2013 Kim sported a far more distinctive twin-set during his New Year speech – although even then they looked somewhat clipped. It is only by trawling the photo archives back to around 2011 that one can see the arches of a man who clearly shunned the tweezers.

He’s almost as unstable and un-American as our first family.
His face is getting so fat there may not be enough room in North Korea for it.
Well, perhaps truth is stranger than fiction, e.g., Kim may well be drinking margaritas and listening to Katy Perry. The movie, “The Interview”, may have inadvertently “outed” him.
Could be inexplicably deliberate. Or, Kim might have a nasty thyroid problem (which would explain some of that flab, too).
He wanted to look presentable for his Dave Skylark interview.
Short eyebrows are also a symptom of thyroid issues.
Man he has put on weight.

His eybrows aren’t shrinking. His head is expanding.

I tend to agree with you. The two photos look very different. He looks like a fat little kid that you want to bully in the playground.
I did not know that.
I go with the double. Minor detail overlooked in prep turns out to be a major giveaway.
Hitler styled his mustache with curled tips when young. Later, he purposely clipped the ends so he could quickly put on a gas mask. True story. Maybe Kim Jong-un is doing the non-eyebrow for the same reasons.
Wonder what else shrunk on him?
