Bump to keep apprised.
Swell. Obama just has to out-Carter Jimmy Carter, doesn’t he?
Oh — I forgot. He only grabs for the glory when things go right. This is obviously somebody else’s fault and they didn’t ask for his blessing beforehand.
Interesting to note that when you go to the ISIS-related “Raqqa2” webpage, Twitter suggests that you might also like to follow Mother Jones, “The Fix”’s Uber-lib Chris Cillizza, and Obama Journo-list’r David Corn.
Imagine that one, eh?
Suspect it would be aimed at the Jordanian pilot who was shot down a few days ago.
When there’s finally MSM coverage, Barry will learn all about it....
First English Language article up:
Coalition Ground Forces Attempt Rescue Mission in Ar-Raqqa
http://www.almasdarnews.com/article/coalition-ground-forces-attempt-rescue-mission-ar-raqqa/
Will wait for more details before posting a “Breaking”
interesting...if you follow the twitter feed there were reports 5 hours ago of incessant bombing in Raqqa...
“...if you follow the twitter feed there were reports 5 hours ago of incessant bombing in Raqqa...:
I follow the “Iraq” feed, and noted the airstrikes several hours ago, as well. Nothing unusual about that, in recent weeks, but a failed hostage rescue would be big news.
that seems to be a summation of the twitter posts:
“The Anti-ISIS Coalition airplanes attempted to land near Al-Saqiyyah St. at the Al-Sakaan Al-Shabaabi Quarter in the Ar-Raqqa Governorate; this was repelled by the ISIS militants who opened fire on the first aircrafts attempt to land.”
were the airplanes landing in the middle of town or at an airport?
That’s at least the second screwed up rescue attempt. I wonder if any helicopters had to be left behind because of a crash during a dust storm?
If it failed, who wants to bet it wasn’t US lead. My bet is it was Jordanian SF.
The crash wasn’t during a sand storm, it was while they were leaving the gathering site after calling off the mission.
There is another thread on FR about Otto Skorzeny. He was a hard core Nazi but also an amazing special forces soldier.
I bet he would have done better.
I think he rescued Mussolini from his imprisonment by Italian troops on top of a high mountain.
Flown out by Storch, I believe.
He went to Ireland and got into farming.
So no one told them about the dust thrown up by helicopter propwash. gotcha.
Someone other than the US leading it is a recipe for disaster, though. Half the people in that part of the world would see it as their chance to die while quietly making their contribution to jihad without the hassles openly supporting jihad might cause their family members in a country like Jordan.
It was pilot error, I thought you were complaining about the sand storm that some of the pilots had complained about as justification.
Of course there is dust with helicopters landing and taking off in desert areas, it didn’t justify the bad piloting and crashing into the parked C-130.
