Marx said religion is the opiate of the masses. Lenin sought to substitute propaganda for religion. It turned out in the USSR that unlike religion, propaganda really was like a drug. People grew a tolerance for it and it became less and less effective. By the 1970s, everyone in the USSR knew Pravda was nothing but lies.

One propaganda technique, and there is no way to immediately combat it, is simple suppression. Suppression is practiced by the American media and its masters. For example, well known to everyone on this forum, the media rarely states the race of a black assailant of a white person; substituting the terms: “teens,” “youths,” etc. etc. The media’s dealings with the Negro Community Organizer in the White House is another example of suppression.

Yes but the damage done was enormous. Propaganda works, look at the American media; total control of public opinion and this control has been in effect since the 1930’s.
