Sen. David Vitter, R-La., is not as flashy as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, but he is arguably more effective at getting his way in the Senate and needling Democrats. He asks for what he wants, and if he doesn’t get it, he holds things up, plain and simple.

Fellow Republicans don’t always agree with Vitter’s pet projects, but they defend his right to defend them. “That’s his right,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. “Whether it’s a wise thing or not, that’s a different story.”

“That’s a fool’s agreement,” Vitter said on the Senate floor. “I need to be able to protect my rights.”
Just on a personal level, I asked: Who on the other side is surprisingly nice, and who’s just a real prick? I don’t remember the surprisingly nice answers, but on the S.O.B. factor the senator’s response was immediate: David Vitter.
More Republicans need to be listed as SOB’s on liberal blogs and political scorecards. That way we’ll know who’s actually challenging the Democrats in DC.
Vitter was a big player in stopping the attempt at amnesty during GWB’s last year in office.
