Indeed!

Still, the common soldiers walked across No Man's Land and embraced - and in doing so embraced and ratified their, and our, Humanity. One of the last demonstrations of Chivalry. IMHO. The slaughter that followed was horrific - a predecessor to the horrors of WWII and all that has followed.

And now we have passed the event horizon of another global conflagration.

In my youth, many described our time as Pax Americana. That day is gone. Now we are in a time of great ferment, abetted if not caused by the weakness of the United States under the present regime.

What we now face, IMHO, is what Sir Winston Churchill described in his "Their Finest Hour speech" as a "new dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted sciences . . . "
