An intruder died early today after being shot in a California borough home as he charged toward the homeowner who confronted him in the kitchen, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said.
The male, identified by Mr. Warco as Emanuel Ladson, 37, of Pittsburgh, was pronounced dead at the Monongahela Valley Hospital emergency room at 4:48 a.m.
The incident, described by Mr. Warco in a news release as a home invasion, is being investigated by the coroner, Pennsylvania State Police and police in the borough, officials said.
Ladson entered the home along California Road through a window about 3:35 a.m. and was confronted by the homeowner in the kitchen, the coroner said. Once confronted, Ladson began running toward the homeowner at which time the homeowner fired a single shot from a handgun, striking the victim in the chest, the news release said.
Ladson left the home through the front door but collapsed in the yard approximately 50 feet away.
The coroner listed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest, with the manner of the mans death being investigated.
Online court records show that Ladson has a criminal history out of Philadelphia County. In January 2002 he pleaded guilty to crimes including robbery, for which he was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in jail. In November, 2012, Ladson pleaded guilty to a forgery charge and was sentenced to 6-12 months in jail with 5 years probation.
