Shouldn’t such decisions regarding public schools be made by the local residents who pay the taxes funding the schools?

Fundamentally, government schooling is a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination. This is true even if school districts were the size of a city block or suburban subdivision and locally controlled.

Local control ( the voting mob) would still mean that the First Amendment human rights and freedom of conscience of the students and parents would be violated. The rights of the taxpayers who are also under police threat to pay for it are also violated.
