I agree sir. In addition to FR, the only place I ever see kwanza mentioned is at my place of work at this time of year. It is a well respected small business defense contractor full of veterans and highly educated young engineers and training professionals. There is a display at the main office entrance that the HR office set up. I’m pretty sure they are unaware of the kwanza pedigree.

I never claimed it was dead, just that I only hear about it here. And yeah it was more celebrated 10 - 20 years ago, I even remember going to a party when I was younger (and yes it pissed me off and I walked out)but every year its celebrated less and less. Your sources are a 10 year old study and quotes from people whose job is to pimp it.

“And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.”: Mark 5:12-13

I think Kwanzaa is headed for oblivion. A buddy in Germany wanted to see a Kwanzaa card...but I cannot find one. 15+ years ago they were easy to find, but since no one is selling them, there must not be a market for them any longer!

Kwanzaa is worth knowing about as a cautionary tale about an attempt to create a fraudulent holiday should another one come along...or an attempt is made to pervert an existing holiday.

I think Festivus has a much greater following...

...no one talks about it. If its not a dead idea its dying fast so lets just stop beating this dead horse.

My white, liberal, Catholic, Pro-Abortion sister in Detroit makes it a point to post “Kwanza” greetings on Facebook.

Perhaps the mocking proves the effort was successful.
Either way, Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Kwanzaa begins today, Friday, Dec. 26.

Kwanzaa Festivals Bring Attention To Holiday

Asbury Park Press, December 26, 2014

Kwanzaa – which begins Dec. 26 – was the theme of the day as NJPAC held its 17th annual Children's Festival. Every room in the Center for Arts Education, a three-story building adjacent to the sprawling convention center in downtown Newark, had a different program geared toward teaching young African-American kids about their heritage.

"Last Saturday, we had over 1,500 children that participated in the various Kwanzaa workshops," said Donna Walker-Kuhne, vice president of community engagement at NJPAC. NJPAC's annual Kwanzaa festival has continued to grow every year since its inception in 1997 and is one of the largest in the state.

"With Newark being primarily African-American, we want to make sure that this beautiful art center is programmed to speak to this community," she said.

While the holiday itself began to gain mainstream traction during the 1990s, Kwanzaa has been in existence for nearly 50 years and in cities around the country, it has become a staple of the holiday season.

A Marxist in a red tree.

On the second day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the third day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Three Dixie Chicks.
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fourth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Four Lenin busts.
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the fifth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Five fel-on-ies.
Four Lenin busts,
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,
And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the sixth day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Six Castro jumpsuits.

And a Marxist in a red tree.

On the seventh day of Kwanzaa Karenga gave to me
Seven Mao pajamas,
Six Castro jumpsuits,

Four Lenin busts
Three Dixie Chicks,
Two Jaily birds,

Twas the night before Kwanzaa
And all through the ‘hood,
Maulana Karenga was up to no good.

He’d tortured a woman and spent time in jail.
He needed a new scam that just wouldn’t fail.
(”So what if I stuck some chick’s toe in a vice?
Nobody said revolution was nice!”)

The Sixties were over. Now what would he do?
Why, he went back to school — so that’s “Dr.” to you!
He once ordered shootouts at UCLA
Now he teaches Black Studies just miles away.

Then to top it all off, the good Doctor’s new plan
Was to get rid of Christmas and piss off The Man.

Karenga invented a fake holiday.
He called the thing Kwanza. “Hey, what’s that you say?

“You don’t get what’s ‘black’ about Maoist baloney?
You say that my festival’s totally phony?

“Who cares if corn isn’t an African crop?
Who cares if our harvest’s a month or two off?
Who cares if Swahili’s not our mother tongue?
A lie for The Cause never hurt anyone!

“Umoja! Ujima! Kujichagulia, too!
Collectivist crap never sounded so cool!
Those guilty white liberals — easy to fool.
Your kids will now celebrate Kwanzaa in school!”

And we heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight:
“Happy Kwanzaa to all, except if you’re white!”

Why is Kwanzaa celebrated and not Festivus? That's racist against Festivutians.

How many Freepers here are Festivutians? Did you air your grievances? Display your feats of strength?
