Susan Hemeryck, 54, tried removing the display Tuesday, and when the Capitol Police told her she couldn't, she began ripping it apart. She was arrested and charged with criminal mischief. The display had been erected as a satire by an atheist group to counter a nativity scene, which was taken down the day the Satanic Temple installed theirs.
"It's just wrong, when you remove baby Jesus two days before Christmas and put Satan in his place ? that just can't happen. I couldn't allow it to happen," said Hemeryck, who said she was wearing a shirt that said "Catholic Warrior" when she arrived at the Capitol. "I was there at the right time and the right moment and I needed to take a stand against Satan."
Atheist groups last year began taking advantage of the Capitol's free speech zone after a Christian group installed a manger scene showing the birth of Jesus. The display last year included a Festivus pole in tribute to a holiday created on "Seinfeld" that satirizes the commercialism of Christmas and a display by the Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, which mocks beliefs that a god created the universe and argues instead that the universe was created by a plate of pasta and meatballs.
The Satanic Temple display was rejected as "grossly offensive" last year, but this year ? following threats of legal action from the Americans United for Separation of Church and State ? the state Department of Management Services gave its approval.

LOL
The damaged satanic display will only draw attention to the intolerance of the atheists as they insisted in ruining the Christmas season for the people of Florida.
God blessed us with laughter.
Not the way it is being spun.
Do I think they are jerks?
Yes I do.
I see jerks all the time but I don’t rip up their stuff.
You are so right. I've made a donation in your name to The Human Fund.
Are they satanist or atheists?
I think they are just no count punks.
No count.
Bless you brother Todd
The thing of it is that part of what we are comprises respect for the law and the property of others. Well, at least this person did it the right way; out in the open and ready to accept the consequences, which is the hallmark of civil disobedience.
So much for, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”.
“As I reigned down blows on Bill Mahrs head, I saw there must be a better way...”
How would one contact this woman? If someone wanted to?
Bravo!
Problem is you allow one religion in, you gotta let them all in.
No you don’t.
Happy Christmas to you, m’Lady.
Sorry, but this does not apply. Open worship of Satan.
The church took the nativity scene down.
There is a difference between disagreeing with someone over small issues and religions that are generally peaceful and compassionate, and the worship of Satan. Which all of those said religions have a name for. The embodiment of hate, evil and the cause of everything wrong with the world.
What this woman did was perhaps hasty. But not wrong by any means. There IS in fact a difference between “tolerance”, and the open worship of evil.
George thanks you ...
How does one ruin Christmas?
I am unemployed, alone and 1500 miles from home.
Christmas will be just fine.
You know what? I’d like to add. Why don’t you go bask in the glow of Satan’s statue in a state Capitol(built on the blood and tears of men opposed to what Satan represents), and think of how great it is Satan get’s a statue too!
Respectfully and sincerely like my Dad used to say.
Go pound sand. For you would be more productive.
