Israel was meant to be a refuge for Jewish people around the world who felt ‘’deeply troubled’’ by growing anti-Semitism in their own countries.
However, Israel is no longer a refuge for Jews; instead, it’s become more like a killing ground where Jews are freely attacked by Hamas rockets, murdered by Palestinian radicals, and wait in fear of Iran dropping nuclear weapons on them — all because Israel’s current leadership is too weak to fight back and destroy Israel’s enemies.
In Nazi Germany during the 1930s, Jews lived in fear of having their shops and synagogues destroyed by Nazi radicals, but they were too disorganized to fight back, and then the Holocaust came.
Now, in 2014, the Jews of Israel live in fear of being hit by terrorist rockets, their rabbis murdered in synagogues, their children kidnapped and murdered by evil fanatics... and it’s like old times again. But not because the Jews of Israel are disorganized; they have a mighty military perfectly capable of fighting back and eliminating those who want to destroy them...but their leaders won’t act.
In a few months the people of Israel will have a chance to choose a new, stronger prime minister. But will they?
Israel doesn’t have a free hand. It depends heavily on the US for aid, and if Israel did what is necessary to crush the Palestinians once and for all, the Arabs would squeal with outrage, as would western public opinion, and the US would stop its aid, and the EU would impose full scale sanctions, both of which would bring Israel’s economy to its knees and make them more vulnerable than ever to a rich Arab world well equipped with modern weapons from threatening Israel.
