Mexican gangs be offin’ each other Big Time in Watsonville and Salinas, two towns that used to be squeaky clean and quiet.

Went to a PTA function in Santa Monica. It was conducted en español. About 20% of the parents did not speak Spanish. Tough.

When I suggested in Spanish, of course, that the meeting be conducted in English, with me and others translating for those who did not speak English, I was roundly booed!

Oddly enough, the fact that classes were conducted en español didn't bother me as much as the fact that nothing much was actually being taught in any language. Had to take the kid out and go private.

Immersion. Way to go. But no matter what the language, some sort of actual content might also be helpful
