A federal appeals court on Monday upheld a 2009 federal decision that called for reducing the amount of water pumped from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in order to protect salmon and other species.
The 2009 environmental review by the National Marine Fisheries Service found that continuing to pump water from the delta at such a high rate would threaten several endangered salmon species and killer whales.
Some of the states biggest water agencies, including Southern Californias Metropolitan Water District, had challenged the 2009 federal decision.

Jerks! Don’t you know the salmon and whales are soooooooooo much more important than humans!!!! Shut up and drink less. And don’t water your garden, for the salmon’s sake!
Good news. There is no reason with all the water waste that we have to destroy this resource.
And how long has CA been experiencing a drought?
Photo reminds me.............how did these people survive into the 21st century without someone else drilling water wells for them. Do they have no tools to dig their own wells ?
Stop letting the Mexicans in and water usage would dropped tremendously.
I did not know we had salmon and killer whales in the delta......
The drought is pretty much done for now. As predicted by Joe Bastardi back in September, we’re in “mini El Nino” year, which means lots of rain. I think we’ve had some amount of rain almost every day for the last month here in Sacramento.

Lots of salmon. Never heard of killer whales unless they’re lost.
Wildlife ping
And yes, we have too many new landscape architects with Cheby pickups pullin trailers wif lawnmowers suckin up alla the wadder frum down south!!!
Amazing that a state that’s adjacent to the world’s largest ocean cannot meet its water needs.
They need desalinization plants on the coast where the people are.
Amen. Desalination is the answer. Instead we are building high speed trains that no one will ride.
The ones I’ve seen don’t take showers or use toilets so the water savings would be nil.
On 6/21/2011 there was no part of CA in drought. So about 3.5 years.
These delta smelt are the endangered fish that resulted in the court order to reduce the pumping of water from the delta.
These are just some of the people who have another perspective on the situation.
How much would the effects of the drought been lessened if CA did not stop the pumping of water from the delta?
