Ironic that Walmart gives Sharpton a bunch of money and can’t even get a store opened in NYC, Sharpton’s home base. in the words of Hamlet, "aye, there's the rub." that is why Walmart is wooing Sharpton... they want to be in NYC...
More than likely Walmart is paying Sharpton's National Racist Network, shakedown or extortion money. That's how Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition makes their money from threatening corporations with boycotts and strikes if they don't cough up some cash for the "brothers".
Walmart services a large black customer base in some areas of the country because of their low prices. They've probably simply made a business decision to pay Sharpton rather than having to bear bad publicity and boycotts from some of their customer base. Corporations don't like adverse publicity. They will pay to avoid it.
