The National Childrens Study has been cancelled despite almost 10 years of work and $1.3 billion of funding after a National Institutes of Health working group concluded that the project was flawed and too expensive to continue.
The ambitious study, commissioned through the passage of the Childrens Health Act in 2000, set out to follow 100,000 children from birth to age 21 and track the effects of a broad range of environmental and biological factors on their health. However, concerns about the studys design, research methodology and management that led to increased cost projections and triggered questions about whether the study should proceed.
Based on the working groups findings and internal deliberation, I am accepting
findings that the NCS is not feasible, said NIH Director Francis Collins in the Dec. 12 announcement of the programs dismantlement. I am disappointed that this study failed to achieve its goals.

Not to the people who collected salaries working on this project. I’m sure they found the money very useful in paying their bills...
“and track the effects of a broad range of environmental and biological factors on their health.”
Cancelled because the results weren’t fitting their liberal agenda.
It’s just $13 BILLION, chump change for a government in debt to the tune of $18 TRILLION.
Maybe they found what in the environment is causing the increase in homosexuality. Shhhh.
“Cancelled because the results werent fitting their liberal agenda.”
First thing that came to my mind.
Cancelled and unreported just like the FBI study of race and violent crime was buried and never released. These criminals are pretty thorough, no?
Also.. good chance it did not make the results that they present admin wanted to generate.
this angers me we wasted all this money on a study then canceled it before any benefit could be gotten for the money that was spent. after spending the money I would like to see government complete the study.
1.3 billion
They probably had problems with gathering evidence. Environmental and biological? Good grief, Charlie Brown! Can take years to get the right questions on simple tests let alone a huge multi-cultural (urban thru rural and north to south plus immigrant) study.
