Philadelphia Police Officer Shoots Suspect in Head During Deadly Struggle
NBC Philly ^ | 12-15-14 | Dan Stamm

The family of a man shot in the head and killed by a Philadelphia police officer sought answers in the hours after the deadly incident during a traffic stop in the city’s Mayfair section.

The deadly gunshot rang out around 2:45 a.m. along the 6600 block of Frankford Avenue after police said the suspect reached for a loaded handgun — stolen last year — in his rental car.

"I would like to know why the police, law enforcement, has the right to kill instead of disabling," the victim's mother Tanya Dickerson said. "It has to stop, this is enough already."

Dickerson later identified her son Brandon Tate-Brown as gunshot victim.

Dickerson said that her son served five years in prison for aggravated assault stemming from a 2007 beating where he was charged with attempted murder. She said that since his release from prison, Tate-Brown was trying to get his life back on track — working at a rental car place — being a "good guy."

Yep, rifle is another matter entirely.

At 10 yards I’m pretty good with a pistol. I can’t get a super tight grouping, but I can get them all pretty close to each other within the target circle.

25 yards is a whole different story.

This one range has these plates attached ot a pole at 25 yards. They are about the size of dinner plates, and when you hit them you hear PTING, and the plate folds back against the pole.

This is where they have their championship pistol challenges and such.

If I can hit 2/10 shots on the plate, I consider myself lucky.

That is really hard to do.

Dog, I wish to thank you for your long service with the First City Troop, or your horse. I'm sure I shall gaze respectfully upon your portrait the next time I'm dining at the Union League. Although, if the Marxist Mulatto continues his economic depredations, I may have to make it the Sunday Breakfast Society. At least the edifying talks are better than his speeches.

I was captured in Maine as a sturdy youth by commercially violent Friends, brought to Philadelphia aa a possibly useful worker, and for all the years since, the city has been a place of strange wonderment and excitement to me.

E.G., on my first day in Philadelphia, I met Thatcher Longstreth AND Frank Rizzo. Together. (Top that!) My mind hasn't been the same since. I was blessed to be leaving as Wilson Goode was arriving. Through a strange concatenation of events, I was last in the shadow of Billy Penn on the morning of 9/11.

Rizzo (Frank) and Longstreth lived a few blocks from each other. Frank was always out of place in Chestnut Hill. He was South Philly all the way. The mounted units were Rizzo’s pride and joy.

You have to be a cop. Only a cop could include buckshot and dounuts in the same sentence!

"...I use a double barrel coach shotgun with spreader loads....The pattern is five feet in diameter ten feet out. "

That is amazing. I did not know they were capable of that.

Suddenly I have interest in double barreled coach shotguns.

“Go bring a pistol to the range and see how hard it is to put one exactly where you want one, mom.”

Well no, because mom is most likely a felon also, and is prohibited from possessing weapons.

Ummmmmm.....I can hit what I'm aiming at pretty well.

Now that's just target practice though.....

It’s not the gun, it’s the loads in it. Beyond 50 feet the load is useless. It couldn’t knock down a canary. Now up close and personal, it is the best tactical choice for inside the home. No aiming involved, just point in the general direction and boom! It’s like having a sawed off shotgun, only legal.

Indeed it is.

But can you hit accurately at 25 yards?

Because I find that with a 4 inch barrel that is staggeringly difficult to do.

He was reaching for a stolen loaded handgun?

And people defend this thug?

He should have been shot.

It was a foregone conclusion that somebody was gonna die when they pulled him over. An ex-con with a jailhouse mentality already convicted of attempted murder carrying a gun and stolen at that. Luckily the right guy died.

If I were the cops, I’d refuse to enter the neighborhoods where these feral animals roam.

Then they shouldn't be cops.

Practice, practice, practice..........

Most assaults...I do believe are within 10 feet or less...

No real need to practice with a handgun at 25 yds.

Just my opinion.

I generally practice at 10 to 15 ft...

I do have a pistol I shoot longer with...just for fun!!! Ha!!

FRegards,
