NANJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping said Saturday that denial of the Nanjing Massacre will not be allowed by the Chinese people or peace-loving people anywhere in the world.
The Nanjing Massacre, committed by Japanese aggressors, was one of three major massacres during WWII. It was an atrocious anti-human crime and a dark page in the history of humanity, Xi said while addressing a state ceremony for China's first National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims.
"Anyone who tries to deny the massacre will not be allowed by history, the souls of the 300,000 deceased victims, the 1.3 billion Chinese people, and all people who love peace and justice in the world," Xi said.
The ceremony, presided over by Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), was held at the memorial hall for the massacre victims in the east China city of Nanjing.
Japanese troops captured Nanjing, then China's capital, on Dec. 13 of 1937 and started a 40-odd-day slaughter. More than 300,000 Chinese soldiers, who had laid down their arms, and civilians were murdered and about 20,000 women were raped.
Representatives of all walks of life present at the ceremony paid silent tribute to the massacre victims as sirens howled over the city.
Sixteen honor guards laid eight wreaths in memory of the victims while the national flag flew at half-mast to mourn the victims. ....
"The purpose of the memorial ceremony for Nanjing Massacre victims is to recall that every good-hearted person yearns and holds a firm stance of peace, but does not try to prolong hatred," Xi said.

The Chinese have never forgotten it. President Xi is right to draw an ethical connection between respect for the historical truth, justice and deterring future aggression resulting in inhuman massacres.
As we all know, the worst evils are still with us even today. World War II may be history but the Nazis and Japanese militarists' spirit is still alive and well in some parts of the world. Our resolve to resist it is strengthened by our remembrance of the past.
And yet these same people were quick to adopt the most murderous ideology in all of human history.
300 Thousand deaths by Japanese - Bad! Unforgettable!
40 Million deaths by Mao - Huh?
Communism - progressives love it.
I would say from the standpoint of the Japanese and the Communist victims, how they died hardly matters.
They died at the hand of evil regimes. That said, the Chinese are coming to terms with their wartime history. One day they will come to terms with the dark pages of Communist terror, cruelty and oppression.
People are not always ready to face up to their sins. That is human nature. But its inevitable. Facing it up to it begins with little things.
I understand President Xi is not the kind of man to question what the Communist regime he leads has done to the Chinese people. But he’s now opened a door that can’t be closed any more.
The truth will be heard one day. No Bamboo Curtain can keep it out. Censorship, lies and a secret police can only hold it at bay for so long. The inevitable arc of history is things will change in even in China; and those who try to avoid life will be punished by it.
Dynasties are not immortal and they’ve come and gone throughout Chinese history.
“40 Million deaths by Mao - Huh?”
More like 150 million ...
150 could also be a low estimate ...
