Sierra Leone area to hold 2-week Ebola 'lockdown' (Medical Martial Law)

Health workers sent to Sierra Leone to investigate an alarming spike in deaths from Ebola have uncovered a grim scene: piles of bodies, overwhelmed medical personnel and exhausted burial teams.

The World Health Organization says the health workers from several local and international agencies are racing to the latest Ebola hotspot, a diamond-mining area that Sierra Leone put on "lockdown" Wednesday.

"In 11 days, two teams buried 87 bodies, including a nurse, an ambulance driver, and a janitor who had been drafted into removing bodies piled up at the only area hospital," the WHO said in a statement Wednesday night. "Our team met heroic doctors and nurses at their wits end, exhausted burial teams and lab techs, all doing the best they could, but they simply ran out of resources and were overrun with gravely ill people," said Dr. Olu Olushayo, an official in WHO's response Ebola team.

In the five days before its members arrived, 25 people had died in a makeshift, cordoned-off section of the hospital in Sierra Leone's eastern Kono district. The Ebola virus carries its heaviest load right after death, with bodies being a frightening source of contagion.

Sierra Leone authorities said they ordered a two-week "lockdown" there until Dec. 23, in hope of containing transmission of the virus, which was confirmed in seven people Tuesday. People will be able to move within the district, but no one will be allowed to enter or leave, said Emmanuel Lebbie, a local official of the Independent Media Commission.

Ebola off the rails now in Sierra Leone, and they just don't have any resources left to fight it.

Where is Obama and the Ebola "Czar" now? Kaci Hickox said Ebola is difficult to catch.

Lots of media pundits mocked and ridiculed anyone who demanded quarantines, and decribed them as people are caving into "fears".

Now Sierra Leone is doing a lockdown, so where are all those "no quarantines" pundits and TV news people now? They need to explain themselves.

Didn’t they just do this “lockdown” last summer when the outbreak became news? I heard a lot of the quarrantined walked away because there was no food brought to them. Other just got ‘cabin fever’ from being locked away in plastic tarp tents.

Don’t they know that quarantines only make things worse? Didn’t they consult with Obama on this?

“Didn’t they just do this “lockdown” last summer”

That was a couple of towns.
This is different. They are locking down an entire district, and around 360,000 people.

This is also the “Diamond District”, and the source of most revenue.

I went to East Africa last month (Kenya) and when we landed in Nairobi (the country's largest airport) there was a government nurse in the arrivals area taking everyone’s temperature. In fact a government nurse took my temperature on departure as well.Seems they were taking the problem pretty seriously.

Practicing / learning about implementing large-scale lockdowns for when they’re “needed” here in the “homeland”.

Keepin’ ya safe, dontcha know.

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
